Birthday Weekend

We celebrated my husband's birthday this weekend in Austin. We ate at his favorite restaurant, The Salt Lick, and spent time with our boys. What a great time we had. We also went shopping and I found some awesome things that will be going in the Winnie and Tulula shop. Don't forget the grand opening is on June 13th!! I found a new shop (it was at least new to me) and was so intrigued by their displays. Since we visited several places, I'll be doing so many posts this week to show it to you all. Here's a sneak peak:

A Day of Junkin

Our day started out early yesterday as we headed to the Canton Tx Flea Market. I predicted correctly, it was hot and it didn't take long for the humidity to sit in, but this still did not stop us from looking for treasures. I did find a few things at the places we went to. We first saw Donna and Lillie in the Civic Center and Ms. Ethel (that's moving in the Winnie and Tulula Shop) was on the Unreserved Side. I also saw Don of Detour shopping, looking for cool things to put in his booth in Uncommon Objects no doubt. I also found a new dealer that it was their first time to set up in Canton, Peg and Bob of Gatherings are from Missouri. They had really great things as you can see:
The Blogger Party at Maggie's Place was very successful and it was so nice getting to meet Ki of The Junk Camp and Nancy of Ella Elaine. Margo was Ki's Tour Guide for this event. I first met Nancy in the field and it was funny that she recognized me first. I always try and study pictures so that I can recognize people and when I first saw her I thought she looked familiar. We had fun at the Party and as always Maggie had her space looking great. Gloria of Sweet Pea has joined her in The Veranda and her things looked gorgeous as well. Ms. Judy was there and her upcoming Open House sounds like it is going to be Fab-u-lous!! For those fans that just loved Judy Hill's space during Marburger, she has a new website you can check out here. Here are pics of our day at Canton.

Look at these shoppers in Donna's booth, they were all talking about Donna moving into Winnie and Tulula's shop.

This was Lillie's booth, liked all the white vases, buttons and things. Lillie is also moving into Winnie and Tulula's as well.

This is Nancy and Eileen. Check out Nancy's Blog or if you are in the McKinney area, both of them are located in the Antique Company Mall.

Here are the bloggers at the Party, the first lady I don't remember her name (sorry), then Donna, Margo and Ki.

After we left Canton, we then headed down the road to see Jo at Imagine in Quinlan Tx. She always amazes me with the things she has. Besides you couldn't meet a sweeter person, I could spend all day talking with her. I hope you can make it to her place soon, you won't be disappointed. Jo is located inside the Hunt County Flea Market at 9065 FM 751 #18 & 19 (she's at the very back corner on the left side of the buildings) Quinlan, TX and she's open Sat/Sun or by appointment, 903-456-4129:

Canton Starts Thursday

Just a reminder, that the Canton Flea Market starts tomorrow on Thursday. Now if you are like me, it's posted on your calendar and you receive a reminder to make sure you won't miss it. Of course knowing it will be hot no doubt, but this still would not keep you die hard junkers from missing the best flea market in all of Texas, you just have to go early to beat the heat. In all the years I've been going to Canton, I know that neither heat, nor rain, nor cold has kept me away. It's also the beginning of my husband's Birthday weekend and since I got to celebrate all weekend for mine, you can be guaranteed he'll be celebrating all weekend for his. Yes, we are exactly one week apart. It's officially on the 1st, but I know he'll start celebrating on Thurday and go through Monday. When I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, there was no doubt what he wanted and that was to go to Canton! So off we go, early in the morning in search of the best junk. Don't forget that Ki with The Junk Camp will be meeting other bloggers at Maggie of The Veranda's booth, check out either blog for details. Can't wait to meet up with her and Margo and the others.

On another note, Judy Hill is no longer setting up at Canton. I know it won't be the same without her, but I'll share more news about her upcoming Open House on June 11th, that you don't want to miss. In case you aren't familiar with her Open Houses, check out my post here for her open house during June of last year and also look here and here and you'll see why you want to go ahead and make plans to attend her event. Here are a few pics of her Open House show in June 2008:

Be sure and check out these vendors if you go to Canton:

**Donna of Curious Goods and Lillie of The Junk Palace are all located in the Civic Center.

**Carolyn Westbrook and Laurie of Laurie Anna's Vintage Home are located in The Arbors.

**Sue is located with Girls Gone Junkin in a separate building before you get to The Arbors.

Have fun and let me know if you are going to make it to Ki's blogger party. Maybe I'll see you there.

Memorial Day Birthday

I should have titled this post Getting to Know Me - Part II. Today is Memorial Day and it's also my birthday! May 25, 1964 seems like yesterday, it doesn't really seem like it's been 45 years ago. Honestly, in my mind some days I still feel very young and actually wonder how in the world I have boys that are in their 20's when I still (yes at times) feel I'm in my twenties and we won't mention how I feel the other times. Of course if you ask them they'd probably say at times I still act like I'm in my twenties. It's like my mind doesn't really want to catch up with my real age. I was born in Galveston Texas, but never lived there. My mother had complications and had to go to Galveston to deliver me. She says that's why I enjoy the beach so much.

I've had a great Birthday weekend, started celebrating early and well just enjoyed thinking that this was MY birthday weekend. My birthday cake arrived early and it's an awesome sinfully rich chocolate cake that is oh so good!! My mother knew how much I had been wanting to rent Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman so she just went ahead and bought it for me. I think I really liked this movie partly because of the era it was filmed in and the great clothes that Nicole wore. Her wardrobe is just timeless and did you know her luggage was made by Prada!

This outdoor scene is one I've looked forward to seeing ever since I saw pics of it. Can you imagine having an outdoor setting as beautiful as this.

The vintage items they must have scouted for to make this movie made me want to follow them around just so that I could see all the antique shops they went to. Now, wouldn't that be the ideal job, buying vintage items for movie sets or better yet selling your vintage items that could be seen in a move.

Well you'll just have to rent the move to see the rest. It's a great movie to see.

I've had a great Birthday weekend and hope everyone has a really great Memorial Day!!

Getting to know Me

Mindy tagged me and wanted to know more about me. Well, I got to thinking about this. I've been tagged in the past and have mentioned many things about myself, but I thought I would do this tag with what I am passion about. Yes, I have routines and things I do almost daily for pure enjoyment, but there may be other things you don't know about me. I'm not one to usually talk about myself, as you can tell from my blog, I like to talk about others or show you places I like to go. So here goes:

Seven things about me:

1. You've read this one before, but my daily ritual is to have coffee in bed before I start my day. Yes even on workdays, I'm up a few minutes just to enjoy my coffee. This is one luxury I'm not giving up. It just gets my day going and a good cup of coffee is essential with lots of cream and sugar.

2. I really enjoy spending time with my boys. I do this as often as possible since one lives in Austin and one still lives at home, it's hard to get them together with their schedules. But any chance I have to spend time with them I do.

3. I am an Ina Garden fan. I watch Barefoot Contessa every chance I get.

4. I'm an avid Junker and go looking for things at least once a week, sometimes more.

5. I love to cook or bake. I'm always trying out new recipes, sometimes my family is not too keen on since they are so hung up on their favorites, but I still enjoy trying new things.

6. I love to spend time alone. I feel this rejuvenates and recharges me and gives me time to clear my mind and think.

7. I love to read magazines, but now that there are so many of them folding under I've turned more to blogs for inspiration. One magazine that is back that I still enjoy is Victoria.

Speaking of Victoria, I mentioned in my Blog Shop post yesterday that I would show you what you could do with old slips. When reading the latest issue of Victoria, I came across an article that featured Susie and Mark Holts' beautiful Florida home. If you aren't familiar with them they own "The Cat's Meow" shop in Florida and they have been featured lately in several other magazines and many times in the past in various magazines. I loved that she took old slips and displayed them across a valance.

Okay, now to pick seven others that I would like to know more about.

1. Dixie @ French Lique Texas
2. Amy @ Trailer Trash
3. Deb @ What's Deb Doing
4. Tiina @ Dream in Cream
5. Lynn @ White Washed
6. Mary @ Vintage Patina
7. Zita @ Mlle Magpie

I hope everyone is having an awesome Sunday!!

Memorial Day Weekend

Do you remember as a kid Memorial Day Weekend marked the beginning of Summer, relaxing, going to the pool (or creek as we normally did), BBQ's, getting yourself covered in baby oil to get a suntan (before we realized baking in the sun is not very good for your skin) and no worries until September rolled around. Yes, we actually started back to school in September and now it seems kids start school so much earlier than we did.

This weekend is a special weekend for me and I'll reveal exactly why on Monday, so keep watching. I've spent the day getting ready to move into Winnie and Tulula's Antique Shop in Athens. This seems to be all the buzz on several blogs as there are really great peeps moving in this shop. I'm also trying to prepare at the same time for the Red Barn Antique Show in Round Top Tx on the last weekend of June. Since I work full-time, I have to take advantage of every weekend I can to get this done. So, since I was trying to organize things I've bought in the last few weeks, I thought I'd show you what I've gathered and go ahead and offer these things for sale. Which you can check out here.

I want to wish everyone a really great Memorial Day Weekend. I hope you are having fun and spending time with those that you really enjoy being around.

Queen For A Day

When you were a little girl did you ever want to grow up and be a princess? Well, why not be a queen instead. This means you are BOSS. You rule and rein and have more powers than a princess, besides the princess has to answer to the Queen. Now there's a genuine Queen in our presence today (and any other day she wishes to pretend she is Queen) and we must bow down and pay our respects to her. Okay, lets all practice our bowing to the queen. Come on play along, don't be a poor sport. Bow down just like she was in your presence right now. See I knew you could do it. You ask why would I do this, because today is Ms. Talking Trash herself's official birthday and we have to respect her all day today.

Let me start by telling you how her day is planned. Her first stop of the day on her whirlwind trip through Texas is stopping at the Collin Street Bakery, where she'll meet Carolyn Westbrook for breakfast.

Don't forget Deb to pick me up a pastry, I'll be starving by the time you make it to my place.

Then, Mindy has agreed to meet her at Starbucks for a quick lattee and then she must be on her way. I'm sure they'll be lots of fans waiting outside, but she'll just have to gently do her princess wave (I mean Queen's wave) and wish them well. She has a long way to go before her trip ends and her carriage (or Limo that CD has rented for a few hours) will turn into a pumpkin. Don't wear your big bling ring Deb someone might try and snatch it! Anyways, back to her trip.

From there, she'll meet Cher and Renee in Fairfield so that they can grab a quick Birthday snack at Sam's.

Now don't tarry long Deb, because I have lunch waiting for you and you know how much Renee likes to talk and have show and tell:

From there CD is anxiously waiting for her in her carriage ride and has to fan her all the way to Huntsville. Oh wait a minute, she just received a call from....who, who do you think? He has agreed to meet her on I-45 only if CD doesn't tag along. He has a present waiting for her. Hmmm, I wonder who her secret admirer is, she's smiling from ear to ear and is quickly putting on talcum powder (do you remember these days) and spraying her new birthday gift from Mindy (Avon of course that she got in a bag of goodies the other day--it sort of still smelled fresh). Oh he won't care, he'll be too busy looking in her eyes to smell that....well maybe not he might smell that and decide to run the other way. Well, can you see now why she was trying to keep this phone call a secret. For heaven's sake, if you saw this hunka hunka burnin love on the side of the road and you knew he was waiting for you, wouldn't you keep it a secret and have a smile a mile long on your face too! But, no she resists the urge and calls him back and just explains in her sweetest southen voice that she just can't make it this time!! But CD won't stand for it and takes the phone from her and tells him to never call again or he'll have to hit him with his fist in the mouth, and that will stop him from singing for awhile.

They continue on their journey and Deb has to sweet talk CD so he's not mad. She finally calms him down with the dessert she had bought me, but I guess it was well worth it. They finally arrive at The Farm House Restaurant. What a trip. I see them coming in the door, I'm in the corner, and wave to them. We have our lunch, it's quiet because CD is still kinda upset, but once he eats his lunch he's in a better mood. Deb on the other hand was just so busy waving at everyone and hugging all her fans and the well wishes she kept receiving, well it was just an honor to be in her presence on her birthday.

She's in a hurry and can't stay long because she has to continue her trip to Malakoff, where Donna, Lillie, Maggie and Gloria are meeting her for Jalapeno infused Margarita's at the shops.

Good thing she has a driver and doesn't have to worry that she would have to help CD navigate home. Again, she can't stay long because she just received a call from her Honey Baked Hams are quickly flying into Dallas for a few hours. They didn't bring any luggage this time because they only have only a few hours to spare. That way they can't get charged extra for their luggage and they don't have to wait on the airlines to find it in case they lose it again. They are meeting her at Gilley's in Dallas. Deb is so excited, she can't hardly contain herself, as this is one of her favorite places to go on Friday Nights!!

Once Deb starts swaying to the music with CD, she starts reminiscing about how they met (she'll have to give you the details about this because only she can tell it). She feels like Sissy in the Urban Cowboy Movie dancing with John Travolta (or CD). With the hour so late, they can't stay long. They say their fairwells and off they go into the night. What a way to end her Birthday!! So many sweet memories.

From a distance she hears CD saying, Deb Deb wake up, you've been dreaming!!

The End!!

Don't forget you still have time to buy raffle tickets for Miss Bella. Click here for more info.

In Search of...

(Smitten Display Window)

Yesterday, we headed out early in search of where ever the open road led us. My mother had been wanting to go on a day trip for awhile and she had also been wanting to stop at Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana Tx. So this was our first stop of the day. We loaded up with lots of baked goodies and headed on down the road to see Ms. Mindy at Primitiques 'N Poetry in Poetry Texas.

Unfortunately, it rained almost all day yesterday so we weren't sure if the rain would cancel her sale. But, no her and Mayron didn't let a little rain scare them off. They've decided to have their sale again next weekend, so if you are near Terrell you should stop in and see them. Mindy has totally redone her booth and it looked fabulous. We also got to see Liz and Fran. Here are pics of Mindy's booth:

From Terrell we headed straight to McKinney Tx to check out Smitten and Homepieces Antique Shops. Our first stop here was at Smitten, where we saw Karen (owner of Smitten) and LuAnn. This shop is absolutley beautifully decorated. I just loved seeing all their great displays. Take a look for yourself:

This had to be one of my favorite displays. Loved all the white, ironstone, clock, bottles and especially the glass case.

All the above photo's were of LuAnn and Kaci of Patina Green's booth. I just loved everything here.

More displays at Smitten above.

From there we headed to Heirlooms, right down from Smitten. One of the dealers here really caught my eye. I love all the black and white and silver and unique items she put together.

We then left and turned the corner and headed to The Antique Company. This booth was a delight on the eyes. I love awnings and of course these caught my eye:

This awning and beautiful chandeliars were located in a shop next door, don't remember the name of the shop:

Our last stop was with Vicki of Homepieces. She's getting ready to move next door to a bigger space. We'll have to check back when she moves in. She too had a lot of pretty things to see.

Hope you enjoyed tagging along with us. I'll post more pictures on my slide show later this evening, that you check out here.

Thank you so much for following:
