This Past Weekend & What's Next?

As you probably know from my last post, we were in Austin Texas for the City Wide Garage Sale. It was such beautiful weather the entire weekend and it almost made me wish my show would have been outdoors just to enjoy the days there. I wanted to share my booth pics with you and then to let you know where our next show is.

I brought a bit of industrial, silver and white with a touch of garden items to this show. Of course my husband brought bikes and they both sold. I had made a cool industrial light from an old windmill stand. I had several look at it but no takers, so you will probably see it at another show unless I decide to keep it. It was good to see the customers and friends that came out to the show and it was nice to make new friends as well.

City Wide Garage Sale is this Weekend

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin Texas is this Saturday and Sunday. Early buying starts at 8:30 or you can wait and get in at regular time at 10am. The hours are Saturday, 10-5 and Sunday, 10-4 and there's always lots to choose from since there's a great group of vendors that set up here. We will be selling there again and hope to see you.

Curious!!

Have you ever met someone and you immediately knew that you both have a love for junk and then you start talking and the more you do you realize they have found some awesome treasures and then they show you a picture of their finds and you are just blown away.

Well, that's how it was with the Curious Boys, Joe and Glenn. These two sweet guys stopped by my booth at and started telling me all these things about how they read my blog and how I had inspired them (made me smile) and then seeing their great booth on other blogs made me even more curious to check them out. Well they've started a blog and I couldn't be happier for them:

I mean just look at all this dreamy white stuff, OMG, makes my heart skip a beat. I want to go shopping in their booth today, wish I could So go on over to their new blog, Curious Boys and welcome them to blog land. Congrats guys!!

Winter Show in Round Top

Happy Monday to you all. I hope you are enjoying your day, hopefully you have the day off. We are back from the Red Barn Winter Antiques Show in Round Top Texas. While I enjoy preparing for the show it's always good to be back home. Here's what we had for sale this time:

This was a green leather sofa that I had covered in white linens. The entire display went to a new home. As did several other big things. The piano keys (seen in the 2nd photo below was a great conversation piece and it too found a new home):

Thanks to all that came out and made it a great show.

We are looking forward to being back in Austin Texas for the City Wide Garage Sale on January 28-29. Hope you are making plans to come out for this show. Hope you all have a great week!

Winter Antiques Show

The Winter Antiques Show at The Big Red Barn in Round Top Texas is this Saturday and Sunday:

I hope you are making plans to come out to the country and just have a great time shopping, eatting, and just enjoying the scenery.

While you are there don't forget to check out these places, they are so worth it:

1. Royer's Pie Haven ~ I plan on making a bee line there on Friday morning for fresh scones and coffee
2. Festival Hill ~ this you might save for the end of the day. When you've walked all their beautiful gardens you probably won't want to do much else after that.
3. Rachel Ashwell's store at The Prairie will be open from 9-5 on both days. So worth driving out to just see her beautiful place.
4. and last but not least, Leftover's Antiques in Brenham is having a customer appreciation sale with food, fun and discounts also on Saturday and Sunday.

And while you are in Round Top you might drive out to see the progress that The Junk Gypsies are having on their new store. I understand the walls are going up and they are scheduled to open in late Spring of this year.

Romantic Country Article

A little over a week ago, I received a call from sweet Anne of Fiona and Twig telling me the exciting news that Romantic Country had published several pictures that she had taken during a previous Warrenton Antique Show. How exciting to hear that her pictures were chosen but what was more exciting is that they were of my booth at Zapp Hall and Christie's booth (she's located in Sommerfield, next door to Zapp Hall). While the magazine didn't list where these pictures were taken, Anne did give us credit for this. You should check out the newest issue of Romantic Country if you haven't done so already. An Awning With A History

Can you see it, another awning found in my hometown this past week. I couldn't believe it as I said in a previous post that I rarely find beautifies such as these here, but there it was. I knew that I had to own it:

You see me and this awning have a history. Yes, we met many years ago, almost 24 years to be exact. Our youngest son will be 25 this year and he was just a baby, just leaning to walk. We had rented this really cute house and it was the first vintage home we lived in that had hard wood floors. I loved living there. We got to fix it up any way we wanted to. It had the original glass door handles and you could enter the kitchen from several sides. I think that's what made me build my kitchen I have now the same way. Okay, getting back to the awning. This sweet little awning was on our bedroom window. It sheltered us from the morning sun and while I didn't appreciate living in a house then that had this fabulous architectural piece, I now appreciate it.

The minute I saw them take it down I thought for sure that they were just going to take it down until they painted, since they were remodeling the home. But no, week after week there it sat, all by itself, to the side of the place. No movement, there didn't seem to be the possibility that it would go back in it's proper place.

Well it's now in it's proper place, with a new owner, one that will now appreciate it for it's beauty. I'm not sure I can part with it. You may see me hang it at shows, but for now it will have a NFS tag. It's like an old friend that you haven't seen in years. You want to catch up, oh the stories I'm sure that awning would tell if it could talk. This was a great day. Happy Friday to you all!

Ann's Place

Last week I got the opportunity to visit Ann's place and shop, The Tin Rabbit. While I missed her open house again, I was still so happy to be able to go and see her. She still had things left and getting to visit with her was just so much fun. Ann is talented beyond words. Not only can she find and display the most amazing things but she's a talented artist as well. Just take a look at her shop:

I thought I had taken more pictures of her shop, but I hope seeing her house will make up for this. Her place is just always so pretty. Take a look:

She still had it decorated for Christmas.

See how pretty her bedroom is. I love how she uses frames all throughout her home.

Her living was so festive and beautiful.

Time To Set Your Calendars

Happy New Year's everyone! I hope you had a great time bringing in the new year and that you are ready to start setting your antiquing clock's and calendars.

The new year already can start you out antiquing in about two weeks. There's no time to waste to start planning your trip to one of the best Texas antique shows (I know you are planning because how could you not want to come to Texas to attend all the great shows we have).

Here's just a partial list of where we will be this year. I'm so excited to start out the year at The Big Red Barn in beautiful Round Top Texas on January 14-15. This is a favorite show of ours that we do every January and June. It's a great time to start antiquing because not only is it indoors but it's also set in the beautiful town of Round Top, and with all that seems to be going on in this small picturesque town, you'll want to attend all the events that are here.

Then two weeks later you can find us in what is becoming one of my favorite towns, Austin Tx, at the City Wide Garage Sale. Remember this isn't a garage sale it's just the name of the show where about 50 vendors gather that bring anything from industrial to modern to country and everything in between. This show runs on January 28-29.

Then, February 11-12 will find us at The Urban Market in Houston Tx. I'm really excited to be selling here as this will be our first time. Did I say how excited I was!

Of course you know the big antique shows are around the corner starting on March 30-April 7th. Please note the shows are running about a week later this year than they normally do so please plan accordingly. You'll find us at Zapp Hall, right in front of the hall.

We may wind up doing another show in between then so keep watching the blog. There's lots more shows you can attend, so click HERE to see more. Here's to a great year.

A Clean Slate

This is the last few days of the year. Soon 2011 will come to a close and a new year will begin. It just seems that the years, months, seasons seem to fly by. Is it that I noticing time flying by or do you notice it too. I don't really like making New Years Resolutions, partly because I don't keep them and I'm not sure they totally represent what I want in the New Year. But what I do love about the beginning of a New Year is the feeling of a clean slate, the chance to start over.

There's a joyful presence I seem to feel with a new year. A chance to do something different, maybe something I've been longing to do but have put off. I just feel a newness in the air. A new beginning.

I also like to reflect on all that has happened in my life this past year. It gives me a sense of thanksgiving for all that has occurred in my life, whether good or bad. It helps me to also think about what things I'd like to change or do differently. I know we sometimes don't embrace change but change can be good. A chance to learn more and grow from it.

I also hope you'll be watching for my next post that will come out hopefully on January 1st. I got the chance to visit a dear friend's Special Place this past week and I can't wait to show it to you. Her vignette's are so inspirational and she's truly an amazing decorator, creator of vintage re-purposed things, and just a really good friend.

I want to wish you all a very safe and Happy New Years. Here's to new dreams and adventures. See you in the new year!

Judy's Christmas Show

Saturday in Round Top

I wanted to spend the day with my mom before she leaves for her Christmas trip and I couldn't think of a better place to spend time with her than in Round Top Texas. So Saturday we headed there since there seemed to be so much going on this weekend. I knew she had never visited most of the places we went to and since she had heard me talk so much about them we decided to go.

We started out eating breakfast at Royer's Pie Haven:

Just look how cute the outside is and you can already smell the fresh coffee brewing before you even step up on the porch. We had bacon and cheese scones and a cranberry scone and cappuccino's and the food was so good. Maybe food just taste better in the country. The life there is so slow paced, no one is in a hurry to get anywhere. I think that's why I love it so here.

After walking around the square and enjoying our food, we then headed out to Rachel Ashwell's place to see her magical compound and store. Of course it was just a pretty as it was this past Fall when I visited.

I could have just spent the day here and been so happy. But we had to continue our journey. We still had several more places to go.

I just always feel as if I've been transported to another place when I'm here. You also want to whisper here too, like you are in church.

We walked the gardens, looking at all the beautiful statues, flowers and grounds:

We hiked down a few trails and just had a great time together.

Our last stop of day was at Leftover's Antiques in Brenham:

They were all decked out for Christmas and were having a Christmas sale.

It was A Good Day

Yes, two white with a black strip awnings. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them. It's really rare to find beauties such as these in my area. Yes I was doing the happy dance and couldn't wait to load them up.

Judy Hill's open house this past Saturday was just so beautiful. If you've ever read about her shows on my blog or better yet if you've ever been you can tell just how much work she goes into doing these shows. She completely redoes her house each time and there's always such creative ideas in one place. She literally has just about everything in her house for sale. Here's more of what could be found there. Things to do in December

December is a jam packed month if you live in Texas and are looking for something fun to do. You can literally drive to a different part of Texas during the month and find a great event to attend.

I want to start out telling you about my friend Ann Perry's Open House at her shop, The Tin Rabbit, in Melrose Texas. It's this Thursday, December 1st and I'm so bummed that I'm going to miss it, but if you are anywhere near Nacogdoches Texas (Melrose is about 20 miles from there) this is one place you should try and attend. She opens up her shop several times a year and the Christmas Event she has here is always so magical. You can contact Ann for more info. Take a look at previous pictures of her Open House:

This is inside her gorgeous home, so you just can just imagine how great her shop will be decorated.

Dec 1-4: Canton Tx Flea Market. We are really excited to be selling here. I'm sure you saw from the last post that we will be located in the 6000 Pavillions! Hope you can come out and see us.

Now, let me just tell you about Judy Hill's Open House, which is this Saturday, Dec. 3 in Kilgore Texas. Judy is calling her Open House: A Garden Christmas and this is one event you definately want to make plans to attend. If I even tried to explain just how talented Judy is, my words wouldn't do justice. Judy literally opens her entire house and just about everything in it is for sale. You'll see displays that you never even dreamed of. For more info., contact Judy HERE. Take a look at her previous open house:

Can you see just how beautiful her home was decorated during a previous show. You just don't know where to turn next and let me just add, if you see something you like you might want to add your sticker to the item or it will be gone (Judy provides stickers at the front door for you to mark your item).

Once you leave Judy's place, you can head on down the road to McKinney Tx for their annual Holiday Home Tour. I was fortunate to attend one year with Nancy of Ella Elaine and it was just so much fun. There's always lots of places to shop in McKinney, so I know you'll have fun being here.

On Dec. 10, our famous junkin' friends, Jolie, Amie and Janie are having a Junk Gypsy Prom at Marburger Farms, Round Top Tx. I believe there are limited tickets for this event, so if you are interested in attending you might want to contact them ASAP. If you haven't had the chance to see their new HGTV show that aired this past Sunday, you missed out. What a fun adventure it's going to be for them. I'm so glad I DVR'd it and I can tell it's going to be a hit show.

And finally, I had to share this event. On Dec. 31, Festival Hill in Round Top Texas is having a New Years Eve Gala. This has always seemed like such a fun event to attend and while I haven't had the chance to attend one yet, I do try and stop over at Festival Hill every chance I can. I love walking their beautiful gardens and seeing their gorgeous Historical Buildings. It's so peaceful and relaxing here. Check out their website for more info.

Seeing Red

This past weekend at the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin had me seeing Red. A red bike that is. There were several sprinkles of red in my booth this time, from the bike to the vintage Christmas Balls, which were a big hit, to the Madonna that had a touch of red on her. It was another successful show and I can't thank the customers enough that came out.

There seemed to be a really good crowd out at the show on both days. I wanted to start out showing you the bike, which found a new home:

It had a good look to it and the customer really loved it too. Here's another view of it:

I really loved the Christmas wreath and so considered keeping it but when a guy came up and said he had to buy it for his wife, I thought how sweet. So off it went to a new home too.

The horn in the above picture was a great find and while it didn't find a new home I've decided to use it during my Christmas display in my office.

I sold the rusty table above and all the small tables/carts that I took. The rusty table was originally a typewriter table and it had a really good look it.

Okay, now lets talk about this cabinet:

I knew that when I bought the cabinet, being one solid piece and heavy, that it would take someone special to love it. Well someone did love it and it is going to look great in their kitchen. It originally was taken out of a kitchen to be replaced with new cabinets (okay don't get that), but it's now back in a new kitchen and since my husband delivered it he said it was perfect there.

City Wide is This Weekend

I just wanted to remind you all that the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin Tx is this weekend. We can't wait to be there and set up our booth. We've been planning and gathering things for the last show of the year there. We've gathered white and silver things with a touch of industrial and Christmas.

It's a Banana Pudding Kind of Sunday

Sorry to have been MIA for a week, but I've been gathering things for the next City Wide Garage Sale in Austin, the weekend after Thanksgiving, and just taking care of life. Today after church I was hungry for homemade Banana Pudding and had to go and make it. You know I love to share my family stories with you, growing up "in the country", spending every weekend at my Aunt and Uncle's place, playing outside until it was dark and my aunt would come looking for me. Well, with the weather turning a little cooler at least this past week it was and now it will be back up to the 80's next week, I guess it had me thinking of family memories.

My aunt and grandmother (on my dad's side) were excellent bakers, I guess that's where my love for baking and cooking comes from. They had so many recipes that was kept in their cookbook, hand written ones, one's passed down from generations, one's their mother made (yes they were sisters) and if you are new to my blog and haven't read past stories, click here and here.

My mom kept the cookbook, pages are falling out it, and from time to time I will call her for a recipe that I remember so fondly them making, like fruit salad for Christmas. No I'm not talking about just mixing all kinds of fruit in a bowl and calling it a salad, the kind I mean is taking whipping cream and beating it until you make a pudding like mixture and add it to the fruit with freshly grated coconut and pecans, oh my I can't wait to share this recipe with you soon. Or my aunt's Tea Cakes she would make in the summer, sort of like a short bread cookie but not so sweet. Then, there was my grandmother's chocolate pie, that toward the end of her life it became lumpy, never mind that, we still enjoyed it with a home made pie crust no doubt.

I also want to share a new recipe that I've been tweaking until I think I've got it perfect, Butternut Squash Soup, that is so awesome you'll be glad I shared it with you.

But today I want to share my families Banana Pudding Recipe with you. I've created a new category below my header for my recipes and I hope you'll check it time again to see what I've added next.

Good Junkin Day

Today we decided to head out to a different direction than where we would normally go junkin and I say it was a good day. You know you are serious junkers to be up at 3am, but that's what time we were up. We wanted to hit the road by 4am and we didn't miss it by much time. Coffee and homemade pizza bread in hand we were all set.

We found so many great treasures. Take a look:

Can you see my husband found another bike! A Schwinn no doubt. He's sold each one he's taken to the City Wide Garage Sale and this one will be there too.

I know you can't really tell by this picture, but can you see the awesome cabinet we found. It originated in someone's kitchen and when she decided to add "new cabinets" she took this one out. My questions is why? Why would you part with such a great piece. Here's a close up:

It has the original glass door knobs on it. And to give you idea how solid it is, it takes three people to load and unload it. It's one solid piece and would look good anywhere.

I also found a great silver french horn from the 1800's that's engraved. A metal swing, loads of old screens, an industrial cart, industrial table, clothes rack (I've been on the hunt for one of these for a while), a fold up metal bed, an industrial stool that originally came out of gas station, old burlap sacks, a primitive ladder, old bottles, silver, ironstone, and several other things. I'll post pics hopefully tomorrow of all my treasures from the past two days that we found. You can find all this and so much more at City Wide during Thanksgiving weekend.

Another thing I love to do when we are on the road is stop and take pictures of old houses. I wonder why they are abandoned and no one seems to want them anymore. They always have such character:

November Canton

Yesterday bright and early, Junkin buddy and I hit the road to Canton. It was a little chilly when we got there but it was the best weather ever for finding treasures. We found several great things, from some wonderful old ephemera, a victorian bench, ironstone, a metal medical cabinet, and lots more. I'll post pics of my finds soon. Do you need to be convinced that you need to go to the Canton Texas Flea Market? Here's what you can see in you do go this weekend:

Blog Party & Famous People

This past Warrenton Fall Antique Show found me seeing/meeting so many people, from the friends that came out, those that attended the Blog Party, meeting the HGTV crew, and I even got to meet one of the Picker Sisters. We just had a blast each time someone stopped by. This will be a random post of those that I saw at the show:

Of course seeing Elizabeth was a nice surprise. Here she is with Debbie.

This past Blog Party I hosted Michelle Delgado, who is the Annie Sloan chalk paint distributor out of Houston, and she came and did a demonstration on this paint. She took a plain chair and turned it into a beautiful chair.

There she is in the background working on the chair and here is Billy with Brian.

Carolyn of Carle Inc. was also there with her beautiful jewelry and HGTV reps sent goody bags to give out. I think we had a great turnout to the party. Can you tell by looking at all our faces just how HOT this show was. I think it was the worst show we've had in a long time because of the heat. Nevertheless, we still all had a good time. A New Month

Do you feel the excitement with the start of a new month and the changing of the seasons. Do you wonder what this month will bring. There's definately a crispness to the morning air here and I just love the start of a new month. November is packed full of things to do in Texas, from antiquing to attending sales or spending time with family, it's all good.

We will literally hit the ground running this month. So much to do, so many places to go, and spend time with family for our Thanksgiving feast is high on my list. I can't wait to see my boys and family all under one roof. Making my boys favorite desserts and getting to sit and catch your breath and visit is a welcoming time.

You all probably know that the Canton Texas Flea Market starts in a few days. There's always a treasure or two to find there. Once you've shopped it, head on down the road to see Jo at The Quinlan Trade Days. I've done a post on her before, which you can check out here. She just got back from a shopping trip and I'm sure you'll find something with her, if it hasn't already sold.

Just this week alone there is so much more you can do in Texas. Huntsville will have the start of a new monthly Flea Market, Kate's Gilded Lily Trade Days, begins on Friday. You can find out more info. HERE.

Bloom and Bee Swanky in Waco will have their Christmas Open House starting this Thursday evening. Check out their blog for details.

The girls @ Rusted Gingham are having their annual Barn Sale in Gonzales and several of my friends are setting up there. See their blog for more info.

And if you are in the McKinney Texas area, check out Stephanie and other vendors at the opening of Treasure Spotter's Market. She's already filling up her new space, indoors too, and it's looking great! Check her blog for details.

On November 19, my friend is tentatively having an open house at her shop. She is so talented and you won't be disappointed at her creative vignette's she'll have there. I spoke to her this morning and she's working very hard to make this happen. I'll have details for you as soon as she gives me the go ahead. Just in case you are wondering who I am talking about, take a peek here at what she's had before. Don't tell her I told you though (wink).

Of course at the end of the month, we'll be back in Austin for the City Wide Garage Sale. We are going on a buying trip soon and should have lots for you to choose from. Remember early shopping on that Saturday at 8:30.

I have to start out this post by thanking the many customers that came out and bought from us this past weekend at The City Wide Garage Sale. We had customers from of course the Austin area, Waco, San Antonio, Victoria and other areas. We had a great sale and I do believe we've found where we need to be as far as selling. I am so grateful for all the sales we made.

We will be back in Austin during their Thanksgiving show on November 26-27 and they are indicating this will be their biggest show of the year. It's also their last show for 2011. If you weren't able to make it out this past weekend, I hope you will plan early to come out during this next event. While the malls will be offering Christmas specials, you know you'll definitely find one of a kind unique Christmas gifts here. They also have early buying starting at 8:30 am on Saturday, so you can still make it to the Mall in time for your other gifts.

Suzanne and Tracey of the Rusted Gingham have a Barn Sale each year. This year's sale is set for Saturday, November 5 at the JB Wells Show Barn in Gonzales Texas. They've moved the sale a couple of miles down the road from where they previously held it and they say it's huge show barn. They'll now have room for lots more vendors! Monday was my Blog Anniversary and I missed it. I knew the date was getting close and actually gave it a quick thought but then got too busy to check the date. I have loved blogging ever since the first day I started on October 17, 2006. It seems like it was so long ago. You can read my very first post HERE (you might be surprised who you'll see mentioned there). Wow, I can't believe it's been 5 years. I first started my blog to get the word out about Texas Shows, Shops that I visited, and then I thought what a great communication tool to let people know where we would be selling next.

I never even dreamed that it would lead me to the opportunities that it has. I have met so many wonderful people through this blog and while some have come and gone since initially meeting them, isn't that how life is too. You meet someone and sometimes they are only part of your life for a season. It's same in the Blog World.

My blog has lead me to meet so many people literally from all over the world and even those that were actually in my area and didn't realize it until we met. I've met so many at the different Texas shows and while I may not have realized they were reading my blog, they'd come and find me and tell me about a story they'd read or seen a show or a shop that I had featured and how they'd visited the place because I had posted about it. It just goes to show you you never know who is reading your blog.

There are the kindest people that have left me such sweet comments over the years. Even though they didn't really even know me and telling me how much they would miss a post when I hadn't posted in a while, coming to see me at the various Antique Shows and expressing your love for me has just meant so much to me! I can't thank you enough for your kindness, the fact that during your busy day you've left me a comment, or just seeing that you were visiting really meant a lot. I am so grateful for all the one's that I've got to meet face to face and even if we haven't met face to face, I still feel as though I know you through your writings too You are the best group of people ever.

The reason I blog is because of YOU!! YOU inspire me with your comments, emails, your blog posts, the things you write about that are funny, serious, meaningful, at times gutsy. YOU don't mind putting your heart out there. YOU write things that I needed at the right moment. YOU inspire me to be a better person. YOU so often enterain me with your funny posts and humor and I know I can always finds something interesting to read about. Thank you for supporting me all these years through my blog!

Judy Hill ~ Marburger Farms

Each season I can't wait for the opening of Marburger Farms Antique Show. I know there will be displays that are just over the top. Of course, Judy always does a fantastic job of putting together the most usual things and making them just breathtakingly beautiful. I think the fact that she uses her beautiful linens and pillows helps her space to look super awesome too. I could just show you a few pictures and you would think yes it's just beautiful, but to get the full scope of her booth, you have to see it from several shots. I'll let the pictures do the talking:

Jackpot

Yesterday as we headed out bright and early, we came across some really good places to find things, and boy did we hit the Jackpot. Just look at what all we found:

A primitive farm table, a very vintage leather chair (Ralph Lauren inspired of course), a wooden table with rollers, tons of silver items (salt/pepper shakers, a bridal basket, loving cup, a great egg cups with lambs on it, sugar dishes and a rare butter dish and honey dish), a black sewing stand turned into a table, an old basting turkey pan, ironstone platters and bowls, zinc topped jars, enamel bowl, metal suitcase and fishing box and a really cute lamp made from deer legs, but I think my favorite find was the leather stool on top of the table. It just has that worn leather look that you can only find with time. See here's a close up:

It was definitely a good day for finding things.

Warrenton Sights & Sounds

The tiny town of Warrenton Texas is literally transferred overnight. It goes from being a population of around 77 to well over into the thousands. Each Spring and Fall, droves of antique dealers come in and set up a shop in a few short days. We are literally building a shop from the ground up for show week. I know for me it takes me at least three days of loading and unloading and once the show starts I'm usually still not finished. I've decided to do things a little different next year. We'll have to wait and see since it seems so long from now if my plans work out.

When I drive into Round Top/Warrenton Texas at the beginning of each season, there's always a sense of excitement for me. Excited that I'll get to see my friends that I only get to see normally twice a year, the excitement of possibilities as you never know who you'll see at the shows or what you'll see for that matter. I know that going to each booth in the many different fields always catches my eye with a fabulous display. The talent that is out there is just amazing how they will take something that was not to be used as that item and turn it into a work of art.

Each field holds so many vendors that are so talented and the merchandise they find for the shows is sometimes just so amazing. I know for me I think I haven't seen an item like that in many years or I remember when my aunt or grandmother had that item and then the memories start flooding back.

In case you didn't know, you are in the middle of cow pastures. During the off season, if you drive through Round Top and Warrenton and the other surrounding towns, you'll see nothing but pasture land, no tents, or very many people or cars are seen then. I guess those that live in that area probably are there because their families have owned that land for generations and it really is so quiet and peaceful, but then Antique Week starts and their worlds are turned upside down with all the people that show up.

I normally like to drive in that area at least once during the off season to look at all the beautiful scenery that's there. There are the old home places that you just want to stop at and stay awhile. You wished you could sit on their front porch and enjoy their views for a while, sipping tea, finding out what brought them to the area, why they've stayed, and what sort of history they can tell you about their home place. Locals are sometimes really quiet about their places and normally they don't want to share much about it with an "outsider". But then again, you find those that love the area and while they may not have been there all their life they don't mind sharing a story or two with you. I love the area and have come to call it my temporary home, at least for three weeks of the year it is.

Fall Show @ Zapp Hall

This Fall Show was hotter than I'd remembered in a while. I know we always try to prepare for the hotter show in the Fall than the Spring, but I think this past show won for definitely being the worst as far as heat. It was humid almost the 10 days we were there, but we did have a welcome surprise when it rained for one day. No complaints were heard for the rain, we so needed it.

However, despite the heat, we still always managed to have a good time (wait until you see the pictures as proof~oh my all I can say is I can't wait to show them to you)!!

The customers that came out bought and even though I sold tons of things I still looked like a I had a full booth. Toward the end, actually when we were packing up I sold three more pieces of furniture. I had bought a really cool leather chair, I don't know how I didn't take a picture of it, but it was muted tones of gray that had worn to this color with time, went to a new home in Austin. I was glad to see a young couple was going to be enjoying it.

I think customers were definitely being more careful with their purchases and they seem to be looking for more and more uniqueness. This is sometimes hard to find, that's what I try and find as well. I am just thankful that despite those that had been told that we were cancelling the shows due to the wild fires still came out and bought. They battled the heat too but it's always worth coming out to the shows since it's only held twice a year. I think we had really good crowds during the entire show.

Shabby Chic ~ Texas Style

Since my last post was a teaser post on Rachel Ashwell's new shop, I thought I'd tell you about being here. I was one of 35 bloggers that was fortunate to sign up in time for the Fund Raiser Luncheon that Kelley of The Hidden List put together at The Prairie. You might remember that last Spring myself and several friends toured the place and now seeing her new store there was just so exciting.

When I learned that I was attending the luncheon, I couldn't wait to see her store. She had the cutest house moved onto the property to turn into her Texas Shabby Chic Couture Store. This place was just perfect as is her B&B. Spending a day here left me speechless. The spirit of it can't be described. It's so peaceful and magical all rolled into one.

The store was just so pretty inside. Kristi and I left in plenty of time to be able to see the store early before the luncheon started. I enjoyed see the things she had for sale and buying her new book was a must.

The lunch was so good. I wish I had taken a picture of it. We had Shrimp BLT, grilled chicken on a bed of salad with cilantro ranch dressing, California Tea, and pie with ice cream all prepared by Royer's Restaurant. Does it get any better than this.

After the luncheon, Lisa and Kim explained what exactly Dwell With Dignity is all about. When families have been down on their luck, they help them reestablish themselves by providing a new place to live, their essentials, like furniture and even a home cooked meal and pie. Once they pass their requirements, they are allowed to keep all the things that were given to them.

Rachel also told how she came to own a Bed and Breakfast and what made her pick Round Top as her new home and now new shop. I could listen to her talk all day. She's always been such an inspirational person.

She then gave us a tour of the main house, Liliput Lodge, and explained how she had redone the place, Shabby Chic style of course. Isn't it just gorgeous:

The gardens are equally as pretty. There were pretty flowers blooming and rose bushes were brought in and planted throughout the property.

I hope if you get the chance to visit The Prairie that you enjoy your time there. It truly is a wonderful place to go.

The Life of a Junker

The life of a junker can be interesting (you never know what you will find):

The garden chairs have since sold, but this cool looking metal tree bench is at the show waiting on you!

And it can be challanging, especially if you are dealing with things like flat tires (the last show we had three blowouts and literally drove into Round Top on three tires!),

Then there's the weather, (if you are setting up at an outdoor show), it could be Hot, Cold, Raining, Sleeting or all of the above. Just take a look at the rain we had during a previous show:

And it's never boring,

Sometimes a little tiresome after you've unloaded, but then you are ready to do it again the next day.

We hit the roads as much as we can can looking for cool things to buy,

Huntsville Antique Show

****REMINDER ~ THE SHOW IS THIS WEEKEND****

It won't be long before the antiquing season starts again in Texas. You can kick off the season by stopping in Huntsville and checking out the Huntsville Antique Show. This marks the Huntsville Antique Show's 8th Year, which is held once a year at the Walker County Fair Grounds in Huntsville Tx, just three miles west on Highway 30. There are over 50 quality vendors coming from all over the U.S. as well as a food vendor. This venue is air conditioned so you can shop regardless of the weather. It starts on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 am and continues through Sunday, September 18. Admission is $5.00 per person and is good both days, children under 12 are free. There is plenty of parking and porters are available to assist you with loading your purchases to your vehicle. Huntsville is centrally located from Dallas, Houston, Austin, Brenham or whatever direction it's easy to find.

Frederic Morris operates the show and there's something for everyone, with a wide array of antiques to suit every budget and taste, from Americana, Primitives, Modern, Country, fine Estate Jewelry, coins, Glassware, Vintage Boots, Turquoise to pottery and linens, you never know what you might find here. Several vendors have been with the show since the beginning. I've set up at this show at least three times and it's an easy show to do with loading in and out very convenient. The best part is that it is air conditioned and you don't have to battle the heat. If you are looking for an antique show to either sell at or visit, you should check it out.

Frederic's love for antiques is what got him started with the show. I read that after visiting an antique show in another town, he inquired if merchants were benefiting from it and once they said "yes", then brainstorming with friends on how to get more people to visit Huntsville, one thing led to another and the show was born. It originally started with several friends but he is now managing the show. He has several booths in local antique shops, A Nitsch in Time and Sam Houston Antique Mall, and is very knowledgeable when it comes to a wide variety of antiques and collectibles. He's also known for his estate sales that are held locally.

Frederic and friends normally travel all year throughout Texas advertising for the show. The show is promoted on several online sites, newspapers, and Billboards. Huntsville is located about 70 miles from Houston on Interstate 45.

You can literally make a day of visiting Historic Huntsville. It's home to General Sam Houston and the museum and park in downtown is a big draw to tourists. There are several antique and specialty shops and eateries in Huntsville.

Who Is Tall, Dark, & Handsome & Turning 60?

Who can you visualize is Tall (the hat makes him taller), Dark (only because of the Texas Show Dirt otherwise he's not so dark) and we all know he's Handsome A*N*D he's turning 60 pretty soon? I mean just take a look at who I am talking about (I know you could visualize a million TDH men), but he was definately at the top of your list, right:

A show celebrity in his own right. I mean my goodness, he's made the initials "CD" famous. In case you don't know what CD stands for, it's Cat Daddy, the one and only, the original CD (created by his lovely wife)!

Many a celebrity (and a wantabe celeb) have only WISHED!! they would have coined the phrase "CD" so that they would have been known for being famous for this, but nope this title only belongs to the one and only.

If you've never met him in person. Well, let me warn you first. When he speaks to you sometimes it's at a distance (and when we are all unloading for the shows it's probably best at a distance for all of us), he'll do this special hand wave and dance (he pretends he's Elvis--so don't tell him any difference) and you don't think he's smiling. But you see, he's smiling inside. This is secret trade mark.

And if he really really likes you (he likes me I think or at least he acts like he does), well he'll bow down to you. This is a real special gesture on his part.

He'll also tease you terribly bad, like telling you he sold something really expensive for a $1 (sorry inside joke).

Now let me finish telling you why I'm doing this post on him.

He's turning 60 in a few weeks (can you believe it) AND he's giving himself a Birthday Party. Can you imagine... So if you want to come to Zapp Hall and wish him a Happy Birthday, you have to go through Ms. Trash first (that's the name my husband calls her and he is known as Daddy Cat--just in case you wanted some history to our friendship).

Since the Junk Gypsies have posted about some this great news, I thought I'd start off this post quoting them:

Well the 2nd part of this great news is that yes they are coming to the Blog Party and they are bringing goody bags. Can you stand it!! I can't wait to meet these awesome girls. Just by their emails I can tell they are super sweet. So, here's the low down. If you want to be one of the first one's there to see them all I can say is YOU BETTER BE THERE EARLY.

Even though the Party will not officially start until 6pm, you can hang around and meet new bloggers and talk to new friends.

I'll be at The Prairie!

I was so excited to receive an email letting me know about a special event at Rachel's B&B, The Prairie on Monday, September 26, and I quickly signed up for it. You can find me here two weeks from today at a special luncheon. A portion of this event will benefit Dwell With Dignity. They were recently featured in a full-length segment of the Nate Burkus Show, which you can view HERE. If you are curious about Dwell With Dignity or just want more information about them, click HERE.

The menu will be prepared by Bud of Royer's and will consist of Royers Famous Grilled Shrimp BLT along with a Café Salad & Cilantro Ranch Dressing, Yeast Rolls & Butters, Ice Tea, a slice of Bud’s Chocolate Chip Pie topped with Amy’s Ice Cream. Doesn't it sound just yummy!

35 Bloggers will be attending that have exclusive rights to blog about this great event. It's also the opening of Rachel's new store on the Ranch and I can't wait to see just how beautiful it will be.

September City Wide

The sale at the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin was a bit different this month. Last month was my first time back selling at this show in probably over 2 years. I had a great show last month. Furniture just seemed to fly out the door and I had to raid my booth at Binky LaFaye's just to have something to put my things on. Now this past show the things that sold were mainly smalls, but some how I seemed to have a better show this time even though I sold very little furniture, go figure, right? I'm not complaining it was just an observation of what was selling.

Of course in the show biz, you just never know what will sell or who you will meet up for that matter. I'll explain further down what I'm talking about.

I wanted to show my booth this month at the show:

I was really in the Fall mood and had lots of pumpkins to get in the mood.

I thought the iron bed would sell, but it didn't so it's going to be at Zapp Hall:

The canvas newspaper carrying bag and canvas golf bag both sold to a special lady. It was Ann from Hill Country House. It was so nice to finally meet her. Check out her blog for a great picture she took of the both of us. It's the best pic I've ever taken *wink* She's also a great photographer.

September Canton Flea Market

We made a quick trip to the Canton Flea Market last Thursday before heading out for the City Wide Sale. I was meeting up with Paula in Canton and was really excited to finally meet her. We had been emailing back and forth for several years (Paula can you believe it's been 4 years) and felt like we were (are) kindred sisters that have a common bond of loving junk. Paula is from Louisiana and lives in a wonderful historic home. I had done a post on Paula a long while ago and finally meeting her in person was better than finding anything that day.

We met at Laurie Anna's Vintage Home and didn't get much time to really visit. I just kept looking at all the beautiful things Laurie had in her store while Paula and I walked and talked. She too is a fan of Laurie Anna's store. Just look at this beautiful display:

Antique Show Tips

Each Antique Show season I always try and post tips that I hope you find beneficial for preparing to come out to the best Antique Shows in Texas. Please know that I don't pretend to know all there is about the shows, these things I've just learned along the way. I've seen other blogs that also offer great show tips as well.

Since I've already received several emails and comments about why my blog shows one date for the opening of the Zapp Hall Antique Show and their website shows something else, I thought I'd explain. I always try and put when I WILL ARRIVE in Warrenton, which this time it's on the 21st. Zapp Hall's first opening day is September 23. I went ahead and updated my blog so it wasn't so confusing.

Also, please remember that not all shows open on the same day. I know for some this is hard to understand because you would think we would all start the same day, but we don't. The Bar W show and several others will open about a week before our show opens. The Marburger Farms Antique Show opens on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and The Red Barn Antique Shows opens on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

For more info. when all the shows open, check out The Show Daily. They'll have all the dates and maps and where to shop. If you've never been to these shows, it covers several towns that are all near each other and the Show Daily maps this out for you. This is a must have at the shows if it's your first time. You should be able to find a copy at the shows.

The Falls shows are also very different than the Spring shows, weather wise. It seems to be much hotter in the Fall but we could have cool mornings, so don't forget to dress in layers. It can be cool starting out but it will probably warm up by noon. Since we've had cooler weather this week, as compared to the over 100+ summer, I'm so hoping for a cooler show. You almost always have to bring clothes for all seasons when you're in Texas.

Here are few more helpful tips:

1. Wear Comfortable Shoes - remember you are in the country and the grounds can be unlevel.

2. Dress in Layers (see my note above).

3. Bring a shopping cart with a liner to carry your purchases in. Last season I read in a magazine that mentioned flea market tips while you are at the Round Top shows and they recommended to "not" bring a shopping cart because the grounds were too bumpy and to bring a large canvas bag instead. I guess they've never really shopped the fields here, because if you are buying several things, after walking for hours carrying those things they can get heavy. Besides a cart will allow you to bring drinks and snacks and the grounds aren't that bumpy that you can't roll the cart around.

4. Bring water and snacks. You need to stay hydrated while you are shopping and snacks will help you keep your energy so you can keep going.

5. Bring cash and small bills. Some dealers do not except checks, while most do, but only a small few accept credit cards. Also, remember a lot of dealers are no longer excepting OUT OF STATE checks.

6. Find a show map to become familiar with all the shows that are here and try to arrive as early as you can at the shows for the best selections. See my note above about The Show Daily.

7. Bring a small notebook and pen to write down what you've purchased and it will also help you remember if you need to go back and pick up things and where it's located. It may be helpful to bring a small measuring tape if you are needing to measure something.

8. Be nice when working with vendors. I can't stress this enough. You don't know just how hard we all work to find you the coolest things we can, clean it, price it, haul it and display it, and courtesy can go a long way in this business. Also, while we are on the subject of this and I hope I don't hurt any feelings, please don't go up to a vendor and automatically offer 50% off an item. Unless you see a sign that says 50% off this can be very offensive to vendors. You might ask "what is your best price" or "can you do any better"? If they can, they'll let you know, but some vendors are firm about their prices and they'll let you know this too.

9. Remember to inspect what you are purchasing. All sales are final and you can not return an item and expect to get your money back. Show vendors are also required to charge sales tax, so if you do not have a tax number, you will have to pay sales tax. However, if you do have a tax number it's always a good idea to carry a copy with you because many will require to see it.

10. Bring packing materials, blankets, bubble wrap etc. to wrap your purchases in when you get back to your vehicle. Bungee cords or twine are also helpful when tying things down to your vehicle. There are shipping companies available at the shows to ship your purchases back for a fee.

11. Ask vendors if you are looking for certain items but maybe don't see it. Sometimes they have merchandise that is still in their trailers or they may have it and your eye doesn't see it. Also, if you are uncertain about things ask the vendors questions. If you are interested in something the vendor can sometimes offer more information about an item.

12. There are always parties you can attend at the shows. Find out through the vendors what parties they may know of. Here are just a few that I know of:

                     ** Friday, Sept. 23 @ 4pm: Clutter Show Opening Day Party
                     ** Saturday, Sept. 24 @ 6pm: Leftover's Antique Shop has a shop opening party.  See their website or blog for more info.
                     ** Sunday, Sept. 25: **My Blog Party** ~ you do not have to have a blog to attend. See my post HERE for more details.
                      ** The Texas Rose Show Monday evening party is on Sept. 26
                      ** Junk Gypsy Prom at Zapp Hall is on Thursday, Sept. 29!

13. There are some great places to eat during the shows. Ask around, you never know where you might find a place to eat at that otherwise may have been hidden from you. You know there is Royer's at Zapp Hall or Royer's in downtown Round Top, both places offer great food. And there are several other places we like to go in the evenings that are in different towns, Joe's Place in Fayetteville is a favorite as is The Cactus in Burton.

14. Watch the weather for the shows. It can be storming one minute, sunny the next, cloudy and over cast on another day and snowing before you know it. Yes we have literally experienced every one of these weather conditions during one show. It happened during one of the Spring Shows, only in Texas!

15. The most IMPORTANT ONE is to have Fun!! This is your time to find cool stuff and just have fun doing this.

16. My last tip is, drive around and explore the great views that are in the Round Top/Warrenton area. You'll find gorgeous home places, like this one:

Or visit Festival Hill, you'll be here a while because it's just so gorgeous. I recommend even having your lunch here, it's so peaceful and you'll just enjoy the gardens and buildings so much:

Getting Ready For Warrenton

I have a lot to share with you, but wanted to start to get you psyched about the upcoming Round Top/Warrenton Tx shows in just a few short weeks. We headed to Canton on Thursday and found a few things, a great cubby and French chair and several other things, but the majority of the things we found were on our way home. It was hot so we got there very early and left early. I'll be doing a separate post of Canton and who I finally got to meet!

Here's a sneak peak of what you'll see in our booth at Zapp Hall in Warrenton Tx:

As you can see I'll have lots of brown and white transferware, a few pieces of purple transferware, which you know is super hard to find, that cubby is just too awesome, and you know I always try and have an awning or two in my space. I loved finding this one, it's all chippy painted and white. Can't wait to share more with you.

We left for Austin on Friday to set up for the City Wide Garage Sale. I'll be doing a separate post on this as well as telling you about the celebrity sighting and who I also got to meet.

BTW, the tents are already going up at Round Top/Warrenton. In case you are wondering, we are only 17 DAYS away from the shows starting. It's going to be an exciting show I can already feel it and if the weather continues like it's forcasted for this week, it's going to be a fabulous time in Texas.

September City Wide Garage Sale

It's time for another City Wide Garage Sale in Austin Tx this weekend. You can find us here this Saturday and Sunday. Here's the truck loaded down from last month's sale:

Since gas is so expensive I thought I would take only what could fit in the back of the truck and thank God I have a good packer! Every square inch was stuffed with something. This week's weather is forcasting rain (thank God for this, we need it), so we might be taking the trailer.

Annie Sloan Paint in Warrenton

I'm sure you all have read, seen, or already purchased Annie Sloan paint. The popularity of this paint is all over blogs, facebook, and websites. I'm so excited to announce that you will be able to buy Annie Sloan Paint during the Warrenton Antique Show. Renee of A Junk Queen and Barbara of Simple Blessings are both teaming up with Michelle Delgado of Wonderfaux Studio, who is the Houston distributer of Annie Sloan Paint. You'll be able to find it at Renee and Barbara's booth in the Bar W Field in Warrenton Tx during this Fall's Antique Show. Their space is located down from porta-potty row, as they call it at the back of the Bar W Field near the back exit to the field.

Most of their furniture they've painted will be featuring Annie Sloan Chalk paints with an immaculate attention to antiquing details. They are also holding special shopping events to beat the heat on Sept. 22-24 and 29-Oct. 1st they will be open from 6-9pm. Come and shop and enjoy cool refreshments and learn how to paint your Flea Market finds.

I'm also excited to announce that Michelle is going to be my special guest during the Blogger Party on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 pm in my booth at Zapp Hall. For those that aren't familiar where I'm located my tent is the only tent that backs ups to the front of the Hall. Just listen for all the ladies talking and laughing and you'll find us! Since I have so many questions about this paint, Michelle has agreed to do a demonstration exactly how to use the paint and you can also buy the paint from her at the party. Or if you aren't able to attend the party, you can find the paint in Renee and Barbara's booth. Michelle will be holding several other demonstrations at Bar W throughout the show.

Summertime at Marion's

Each time Marion has invited me to her home I always enjoy going. I know that she decorates not only for each season but as you'll see she even has it decorated for the Summer. Her home is always so cozy and she has one of the best eyes for display that I've seen in a while. When I first started in the business, it was Marion's booth that I couldn't wait to check out. She changed it so often that you never knew what great idea she'd come up with next. And it's the same at her house. I know she'll have done something different the next time I go back.

This is her front porch. Right now it does have a summertime look to it, but if you wait and go back around the Fall, she'll having it looking different.

4 Years & Past Memories

When I started having problems with my computer shortly after I returned from the Spring Show, my nephew felt certain he could recover my pictures, but even though he tried, he couldn't. All the Pictures I've taken in the last 4 years are gone, they couldn't be recovered. It makes me really sad that I didn't use some kind of backup program. It wasn't because I wasn't warned, but I didn't listen. At least I saved some of my pictures on different programs, but the one's with family and holidays, birthdays, special occasions and all the pictures I took during the Spring Round Top/Warrenton shows couldn't be recovered. I tell you this to please encourage you to back up your photo's before you lose them all.

Since I don't have my pictures to show you, here are a few things from the last show in Round Top/Warrrenton Texas that I wanted to at least share with you (I borrowed pics to do this):

Amy, Jolie, and Janie put together the most awesome goody bags in pretty pink bags to give away at the Party and they were a big hit. Gina of Peacock Park Design had beautiful bracelets that she brought and gave away. And Carol's husband made such pretty aprons that he made and they brought them just for the party. Lisa of Pix Up Stix won the Blog Party Contest for having the most creative name tag. I want to thank everyone that brought such awesome food or came to the party or brought party favors, you guys are the best! I tell you if you haven't had a chance to come out to any of the parties you need to plan to come out to the next one this Fall. Please check my blog for the next party in September. We have the best time and you meet some really great people.

I don't have any pics to show you all the great things I saw in the fields. There was this one booth located at the Old Henry field that had constructed Red Walls and had chandeliars and great Italian looking chairs and settee's that automatically caught your attention as you drove by as the walls were located by the road. It was awesome. There are so many talented people that put displays together so well and then there are many booths that just put it all out on tables and that's okay too. You can still find things you are looking for, displayed or not. It seems this show continues to grow each season. There are so many towns to show at from La Bahia to Fayetteville, Round Top, Warrenton, and in between.

One of the highlights of this past show, was being invited to Janet's Birthday celebration. I just adore Janet and her family. They are truly one of kind great people. It was also her Mother's Birthday, yes Janet was born on her birthday, so there were actually two celebrations. Janet's only request for a gift was a butter pat! The food was really good and the company that was there was just great! We had such a good time, laughing, until it was dark.

Janet also took us on an awesome house tour in the quaint town of New Ulm. I wish I had the pictures I took to show, but it was an old school house (if I remember correctly) that was turned into the cutest place.

I also have to tell you the story about why her mom had the reaction she did in the picture above. Her mother set up at shows way before any of us thought of even doing this and she had made the item she was holding in her hand. Well it had long since sold, but one day when Mo (Janet's sister) was at the Canton Texas Flea Market she spied something that looked like her mother would have made. When she turned it over she saw her mother's signature. Now how awesome is that to actually find something that your mother made so many years ago and then be able to buy it back for her.

There were so many awesome vendors that set up Zapp Hall, like my neighbor and friend Cindy and her mom Charlotte. They brought a huge load and sold lots and lots. They are in the big tent by my booth. Then, there's the Junk Gypsies (who need no introduction), Deb and Cat Daddy (of course we all know CD, but you might want to introduce yourself to Deb~just kidding), Robelyn (I've got an upcoming post just for you "R"), Carolyn Westbrook, Gina of Country Gardens Antiques and so many more great vendors here and don't forget the great food at Zapp Hall. Check us all out at the upcoming Fall Show and you'll see what I mean.

Of course another highlight of the show is going to the Marburger Farm Antique Show. So many of my friends are at this show and seeing all the great displays just blows me away. One of the displays I saw even before it was set up was Robin's Dove Cage that was made out of a dress form. Words can't describe just how super talented she is, not only with her clothing line, Magnolia Pearl, but with the displays she creates each season. Just when you think she couldn't possibly think of something else, she does:

The Junk Gypsy Prom is always such a fun event. You just never know who will show up or what they will be wearing. The fun here is just the best. Check out the JG Blog for all the details.

The Leftover's Antique Shop has a party each season to celebrate their shop redo and allow vendors and customers to shop their store in the evening. Their displays are always over the top and things they find on their trips is amazing. This time, they hosted Rachel Ashwell and there was a book signing event there. It was fun seeing the crowds that turned out for her book signing. Here are several pictures that Shelley took of the shop:

I was invited to tour Rachel Ashwell's new home, The Prairie, in Round Top, which I did get to do a post before my computer crashed. You can check out that post HERE. I've heard that she will be opening a new store during the Fall Show (She just updated her blog with this, "On September 27th I will have my first book signing for my new book, at the opening of our Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture™ store at The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell B&B in Round Top, Texas."). I can't wait to go back and see her magical place again. It just took my breath away with the beauty that she's created here. Be sure and mark your calendar's for her store opening and Book Signing Event!

So many friends and customers stopped by my booth at Zapp Hall to say hello and meeting Gayle that owns the Stars Antique Mall and having known of her for many years through having seen her in Country Home magazine was a real treat meeting her. I also got to meet Mary Emmerling, but again no pics to show you.

I have made myself a promise to back up my pictures so in the event my computer crashes again I won't loose any of them as well as the important pics of my family.

Just think you are about 30 days away from the shows starting!! I can't wait, let's just pray for cooler weather though. Hope to see you soon.

It's My Baby's Birthday!!

Today is our youngest son's Birthday, big 24!! Do you remember that age. I can't believe he's so grown up, the year's just seem to fly by.

When he was little he was so opinionated and that hasn't changed. He was definately my strong willed child. He grew up to be a great son, we couldn't be more proud of him.

He's very head strong, he knows what he wants in life and won't settle for less. He's more wise beyond his years. He very loving and caring. Some day he'll make someone a great husband.

He's also a very talented artist, drawing has always come naturally to him. He's even drawn pictures that have other's had him draw. He's also very musically inclined. At a very young age he taught himself to play a guitar and he's always singing.

We celebrated his birthday last weekend in Austin and of course we'll celebrate again this weekend. It's almost become a tradition in our house to celebrate Birthday's several times through the month. I mean why not celebrate more than once. It took 9 months to get here so why only celebrate just one day!

We love you son, you're the best. May you have many many more years of Birthdays and may you never get too old to celebrate them!!

This Weekend in Austin

This weekend in Austin was great at the City Wide Garage Sale. There was a good crowd and steady sales all weekend. We took a load and set it up on Friday and by Saturday night I had to raid my booth at Binky LeFaye's in Llano since I had sold so much. Not a bad problem to have. Here was my booth:

City Wide This Weekend

We'll be there, will I see you there? Sure hope so. We haven't set up at City Wide in several years and I'm looking forward to being there selling again. I'm bringing a mixture of things, a lot of industrial and darker items, I guess I'm so ready for Fall that's what I've been collecting. Is it that I'm ready for Fall or the cooler temps. I heard the weather man say this week that we are 7 weeks away from cooler weather. Of course, in Texas what does that mean. We could go from 106 to 96 and that would be cooler weather? Sure am praying for some relief. The good thing about being at City Wide is that it is air conditioned. Be sure and check out their website for a $1 off coupon. Also, remember they have early buying but you can't use the discount for this. Hope to see you there.

What's in Llano?

What's in Llano Tx you ask? Well, lots of great treasures and two really awesome stores, Binky LaFaye's and Whimsey's. If you've never been this direction and to these stores, it's worth the drive. Llano is only about an hour from Austin and you will get lost in this great town. No, not because it's so big and there's a lot of people here, but because these two stores that are side by side will have you shopping for hours and before you know it you'll look up and they are turning the lights out on you. I'm sure they wouldn't do that especially if you are still shopping.

The first time I drove up to Binky LaFaye's I knew this was my kind of store. I had heard about it from several friends and had seen pictures of the store from Binky's blog, but to see it in person was just amazing. You'll find treasures here that you haven't seen in a while. Just take a look at my booth:

American Pickers WERE in Texas

There have been several of us that have been trying to get American Pickers to come to Texas. We've thought Texas has some of the best stuff & junk that would definately entice the American Pickers to come and shop here. Well, they WERE in Texas. As a matter of fact you'll be able to see the episode tomorrow at 8pm on the History Channel.

Garland Murphree, who has a booth in at the Canton Texas Flea Market each month and you can find him and his daughter Mandie at Marburger Farms Antique Show each Spring and Fall, shared with me this past Thursday that they came to their place and will be on the this episode. How exciting for them. Be sure and tune in to see them.

Keeping It REEL

Hello Friends. I can finally say that my "ordeal" is finally over with. Well at least the hardest part is and now phase of two of it begins. I'm continuing to keep a positive attitude, I mean do I really have a choice, in my life, the answer is no. I do know that I have God to turn to and I know no matter what is thrown my way in this life, he will most definitely see me through it. It may not turn out the way I want it to and I may not go toward the path that I thought I should go, but if he's leading me then I know I'm headed the right direction. I have so many again to thank, words, simple as they may seem...but really thank you so much for standing beside me during what was by far the hardest thing I've gone through. It was really tough at times and for many that allowed me to lean on you, I am so grateful to you.

We headed to Canton today and I know it was so so hot and you are probably wondering, what were you thinking, but we still enjoyed it. Even though there weren't many vendors on the grounds, we were there at the crack of dawn and left really early. I did get to meet Nancy and Mike. They are so genuinely sweet. So nice to meet them, here they are:

Aren't they a cute couple. They just recently opened a new shop in Wimberly Tx, House Wren, you can find them this Fall at Marburger Farms Antique Show and...they'll be at City Wide Garage Sale in Austin in a few weeks. Also, be sure and check out their blog, House Wren.

Speaking of the City Wide Garage Sale, we will be setting up there for the next one as well, which is August 13. I hope you come out and see us.

Hello all. Hope you've been well and having fun this summer. I'm still allowing God and his peace and the counsel of great friends to lead me in the right direction with my situation. An angel called me yesterday, no not the kind you would think of like in biblical times, but a great friend that said just the right words to lead me in the right direction. You know who you are friend and I give you many thanks for your words of wisdom!! There are so many of you that I can't say thank you enough to that have emailed me such great words of support, or called and said just the right thing or made me laugh when I needed to, or left comments you truly are a great community of friends in this blog world. I know that there are those of you going through so much more than what I am and just this week I read about a family that lost their daughter, tragic, so young. If you get a chance go over and visit Vickie's blog. I'm sure she'd appreciate your words of kindness during this situation. My ordeal is nothing compared to this.

We spent the weekend in Austin with our oldest son and his girlfriend and a house full of family. We were there to celebrate Courtney. She was in a body building contest/beauty pagent and she won first place in her contest and then won first place in overall competition. I'll show more of this in a later post.

Of course we headed over to Binky LaFaye's. It always seems like such a quick trip when we visit but there sure was a lot of inspiration going on in Llano Tx. The middle picture of my header was taken in Binky's shop and the other two were taken at Uncommon Objects in Austin. I'll also do another post on Binky's and Whimsey's hopefully soon.

Heading back into Austin from Llano, we took a different route and guess where we landed, almost right at the front door of Uncommon Objects. Do you think I took the opportunity to visit here, of course I did. My nephews had never been and having heard me speak so much of this place they just had to check it out. They found a few treasures, I was good and didn't buy one thing, but boy did I soak up the inspirational things that were in this store. Just super awesome. I would love to have headed over to the City Wide Garage Sale but we just ran out of time. I did, however, find Mickie and Brandy's new booth at the Austin Antique Mall and would you believe that my camera battery died before I could take a picture of their booth. I'm definately going back to this shop, there was so much to see.

Still working through my ordeal, but I just had to let you know how much you've all touched me with your love and kindness that you've shown me these past few weeks. I'm almost to the end of this very stressful situation, actually I'll know on July 26th how things will go. Please especially on this day, keep me in your prayers. I've so missed you all. I'm continuing to be led by God which direction to take, how to handle this, and prayer is the only thing that is keeping me sane these days.

Since I'm not blogging much and visiting you all even less and even though I know I told y'all I wouldn't be posting much this month, I just had to share the Curious Boys booth with you. Joe and Glenn usually come and see me each time at Warrenton and they are just such a delight to talk to. When Dixie posted a pic of their Booth, I wanted to show it to you:

They are located in several shops, but this one was taken at Blue Hills Antiques in Geronimo Tx. I am sure they have some really awesome things in their booth, because they have such a great eye from the pictures they've shown me. Maybe this will encourage them to start a blog, hint..hint...

I'm Featured in Romantic Country Magazine

I am so excited that several of my pictures from The Warrenton Antique Show are featured in the newest issue of Romantic Country Magazine.

Tricia of Vintage Bliss had sent me a message that she had seen my booth in this issue. I had no idea that Anne of Fiona & Twig had submitted several pictures to them of The Round Top/Warrenton Antique Show. They selected two of my booth and two of Christie's booth. Christie is located in Sommerfield Place next to Zapp Hall. This is her first magazine publication and she was really excited to hear this. July Canton

We went to the Canton Texas Flea Market this past Thursday. It was so hot that we didn't stay long. Since I had read that Carol of Raised in Cotton was planning a trip there, I was hoping that I would get the chance to see her before I left. There weren't many vendors this time and since I knew it was going to be so hot we arrived early. After I had walked the entire grounds, I was on my way out when I saw Carol and her friends:

We went to Jo's place in Quinlan and found more things with her than we did at Canton. I always enjoy seeing her. Our final stop was at Winnie & Tulula's, where I bought a treasure with Margo.

I'm Sharing My Trials

I woke up this morning feeling still really heavy burdened. I know from my last post I left you probably wondering what the heck was going on, and while I still don't feel it completely necessary to share it all with you, I do feel necessary to share what I am learning. Just so you know it's NOT my family or my health and for this I'm thankful, it is still a big deal and a BIG situation and a pretty stressful one too. But since I love to share, you all know that, I felt I would at least share what I am discovering.

There may not be pictures (and this is hard for me since I'm such a visual person) and there may be days where it's just words, whether a few or a lot, but I feel that by sharing it will be therapeutic probably more so for me and if along the way it is for you too, then I'm thankful for that.

I read Elizabeth's post this morning and it so touched me as many other's I've been reading out there this past week have, like Shelley's blog where she's having to find a new home, her journey and outlook will touch you too. I know we all go through trials and tribulations and none of us are exempt from this. Some harder for others, I believe it's where you place your focus, that will determine your outlook. Will you focus only on the situation? It's like having a coin directly in front on your eye, that's all you see is the large coin. But if you will move the coin back a few inches from your eye you'll see your surroundings. It's the same with the trial you're going through as well.

While sometimes all I can do is focus on the situation, it consumes me. I can't sleep and my thought process is totally focused on that situation. But I also know that my God is far bigger than anything I'm going through!! I do hope by sharing with you that I won't lose anyone that normally comes to my blog to read about the latest adventure, and normally it's a positive one, some place I've been, or shopped, or found but if I do lose you then all I can say is maybe eventually you'll come back and if not then I wish you well on your journey.

We all know life isn't about the where the next best adventure will be. Wouldn't it be great if it were just that simple. Sometimes reality just slaps you harder in the face than you've experienced in a long time. Yes, we all have our days, good or bad, and you bounce back I'm sure but sometimes in life there comes a point that you might not bounce back as quickly as you did before. The pressure or situation stays longer than you'd like. Let me add I'm no expert in giving advice about things, I'm only sharing from my heart.

This is what I've learned this week:

While I've always considered myself a Christian, I am human, I make mistakes, I don't always serve him like I should. I've learned this week that I am not alone in this situation. I do have people that care about me and my situation and there are those that are going through problems of their own, yes even more difficult ones than the one I'm going through. I so thank you for your emails, comments, calls, you are the best!! I also realized, some how I guess I forgot or didn't feel... (I don't know worthy or guilty or whatever word to fill in the blank) that I can still cry out to God, who will listen to me no matter what!! I've done a lot of crying to the point where my eyes have been swollen a lot. I don't tell you this for you to say you poor thing, but I think crying sometimes cleanses the soul.

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. (Isaiah 48:10)

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God delivers him out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)

Closed For The Season

When I was growing up I always loved to go swimming, normally it was in a creek by my aunt and uncle's place where all the kids would gather to swim. Occassionally, we got to go swimming at the pool in our town, but I always dreaded seeing the sign "CLOSED FOR THE SEASON".

Well, you guys know how much I love to blog and now you are going to be seeing this sign for probably the next few weeks. I have some personal issues that really need my attention and I just don't think I can give the 100% devotion without just totally stopping blogging for awhile. I feel that I owe my faithful followers and readers at least this much of explaining why you won't see any posts for awhile.

I've been so undecided how to tell you guys this since you are always so kind to leave me comments or come and visit me at shows telling me how much you enjoy reading my blog, even though you don't have one, or even your sweet emails. Just this past week I received such a sweet email from someone who doesn't even have a blog but expressed how much she enjoyed mine. This always makes me smile and it just makes my day.

But as I said I really need to devote time to take care of issues. I hope you won't totally give up on me. I do promise to be back. I will have one post that will probably come out later in the month telling you about an exciting show coming up but after that I'll be back concentrating on issues.

Father's Day in Llano

Two weeks ago on our way home from the Canton Texas Flea Market, we stopped off at Winnie & Tulula's. There were pretty displays all throughout the store. Well this Saturday, June 18th, they are having their annual Junke & Disorderly Sale, so if you are in the area stop by and check them out. And if not, then make plans to head to Athens. Several little birdies (you can find them here and here) said there's going to be great items on sale.

Judy's Spring Show ~ Part 2

I took so many pictures of Judy Hill's Spring Show and have looked over them deciding which ones to post, but it's so hard to choose because the talent and effort she puts into her home show is just amazing. Everywhere I turned I saw so many things that inspired me and then when I saw Nancy's pictures I realized there were things I didn't see initially until I saw them in her pictures. We were there at least two hours and I know looking back over her pictures I'll see things that my eye didn't initially catch. Well I hope you enjoy seeing more of her gorgeous place.

Judy Hill's Spring Show

My mother and I hit the road early this morning to attend Judy Hill's Spring Show and it was really great. She used a lot of metal, burlap, rust and white things. I just loved everything! I'm probably going to have to do several posts just to show it all to you. Here's a quick preview:

Simple Things

A few shows back, the owners of Simple Things, a furniture/antique store in Ft. Worth, stopped by my booth at Zapp Hall and bought a few things. I had heard of the great store they had but since then had also heard that they had closed.

Well, today I was on Gina's Blog, 3 Ring Cottage, and she posted about them. Apparently, they are moving to a new location. Now, I'm really going to have a plan a road trip soon. Check out their blog.

Bountiful Home

I have been a fan of Sue Balmforth's style ever since I first discovered her in Country Home magazine many years ago. I've always promised myself that some day I will visit her shop, Bountiful Home, in Venice California. I've known about her website for some time, as many of you probably have too, but I recently discovered her on Facebook. Check it out here.

She still has great style. Lawn chairs are always welcoming anytime of year.

Of course hydrangeas in urns always makes a room more beautiful.

June Canton

The June Canton Flea Market was as hot as it normally is in August and this was just June, near 100. We didn't stay long and didn't find very much, even though there were tons of vendors, I was just looking for certain items. I thought I'd show you what all you could have seen this month there.

There's always booths that have garden related items to include plants:

This was Troy and Rod's booth. Loved the furniture with vintage wall paper and the pillows and slip covered items.

Hot Time in June

It looks like it's going to be such a hot year this summer and summer is still officially 20 days away. We haven't even gotten to the good part of Texas Weather yet and I'm already wishing for Fall and Winter! I've seen temperatures in the low 50's in other parts of the US this past week and I wonder why we Texans couldn't have enjoyed just a few more days of cooler weather, but it seems our season bypassed Spring and went straight into Summer.

Well with school almost out I'm sure you'll be looking for something to do, you'll want to hit the Junkin Trails, before it gets too hot. Here are different places in Texas you can hopefully find a treasure or two this month:

The Canton Tx Flea Market starts today, June 2-5. There's always great vendors here but you definately have to go early for the best finds AND to beat the heat.

Judy Hill's Hackberry Hill Farm Home Show is one day only, on June 11:

Now this is one event you don't want to miss going to. Check out her blog for details.

Here are more places to go this month:

June 17-19: Fredericksburg Tx Trade Days

June 18: Junke & Disorderly Sale @ Winnie & Tulula's, Athens Tx. This always looks like such a fun event and you'll be able to find a bargain here too. Plus the Bistro will be open so you can have lunch as well.

June 18-19: City Wide Garage Sale, Austin Tx. Don't forget that Uncommon Objects Antique Shop is just a few blocks away!

June 20th: Uncommon Objects will be open for 20 Hours to celebrate 20 Years of Business. I can't believe this shop has been around 20 years and it's only been probably within the last 10 years that I knew about it. This is one fun place to visit.

June 25-26: Red Barn Antique Show, Round Top Tx. I won't be selling at the Red Barn this time but hope to be able to come and check out all the great vendors that will be here.

And finally another Canton this month is on June 30-July 3: Canton Tx Flea Market.

Surely, with all these events you'll be able to go to at least one of these places.

And, if you can't stand the outdoor weather, you can always make a trip to Llano Texas to Binky LaFaye's and check out OUR BOOTH there. Remember Whimsey's is next door and both shops have tons of vintage things for you to see (and buy)! Happy Junkin!

Happy Friday!! Many years ago when I was in a local shop, I did this display for Memorial Day. It's always been one of my favorite displays and I still have the red cloth mannequin. I just couldn't seem to part with it. The rest of the items have since sold. I do wish I still had the white columns, they were so cool.

Let's Celebrate With White!

I'm sure you are wondering why I want to celebrate with White. Well, of course you know that today is Kathleen's White Wednesday's and today it's also my Birthday, so there, I have two reasons. And since I love White, why not celebrate it. See even Janet had a White Birthday Party, loved this idea. You'll have to read about it HERE. I have some great pics to show you of her party, if my other computer will ever be fixed, I'm beginning to wonder...

While at the shows, I received Fifi's new book, Romantic Prairie Style, and I haven't been able to put it down. It has lots of great ideas and inspiring places. I also recently received the Jeanne D'Arc Living Magazine, which is more of a book to me, and you can always find inspiring ideas here (thanks Karen again for my gift of this magazine). And finally, I purchased the Summer Cottage Style Magazine.

Carol of Raised in Cotton's dining room is so inviting and inspiring and paired with Maria's ironstone, it all looks good in this collage.

Loved the "C" in this picture. Jeanne D'Arc Living Magazine always has great vignettes to inspire me.

Now Joy's house is just beautiful inside and out. I love her collections and recently found a gold mirror very similar to the one that has a picture with it.

My Favorite Room

Back in April, we stopped by My Favorite Room in McKinney Texas but they were closed for the Holiday weekend. This past weekend I was so excited to be able to visit them and made them my first stop. There was absolute beauty at every corner.

New Treasures in Quinlan

We made a detour yesterday and stopped off to see Jo Harmon's place at the Quinlan Texas Trade Days. She was gone for almost two weeks on a buying trip from up North and boy did she bring back a lot of new treasures. You'll have to take a look at what she's found and when you do you'll want to make a trip to see it all for yourself:

Love her garden area she always has set up when you first walk in. She always finds the best things to use in your garden or home.

You're Invited To Llano

First, I want to thank you all so much for your sweet comments and prayers for my husband. It was appreciated more than you'll ever know. It was a quick funeral and it was good to see family that we hadn't seen in a while. For those that don't know, his parents had separated when Cruz was little and they were no longer together. Losing them both within 6 months was hard on his family. Thank you again for your prayers.

Second, I'm not sure what was going on with blogger, it deleted comments I had posted before I left. Oh my, they screwed up with their maintenance issues, I sure hope they realize what they did. I had to repost comments as blogger wouldn't let me repost them. Anyways, moving on.

Lastly, I'm ready to reveal the surprise I've been alluding to, so here goes...

We've taken a space at Binky La Faye's shop in Llano Texas. I am so excited to be in her shop. After we returned from our trip to the valley, we decided to go ahead and go the other direction and move into her shop. We received such a warm welcome and Glenda that was working there just made us feel right at home, even already kidding with Cruz and both Binky and Ron came in on their day off to welcome us. It just feels like this is a really good move for us. We are really excited about our newest adventure and I so hope if you are in the area you'll stop and check us out.

When we visited Binky's shop back in April (you can read about it HERE and HERE), I just loved the welcoming feel of this place and of course it was full of wonderful treasures too. Just the kind I like. I didn't even hesitate considering a space in her shop. I started off setting my booth up with a "June Wedding" theme:

The wedding dress has a long train on it and is just so pretty. There's a stack of bibles and a camera and of course suitcases with a change of clothes, vintage of course, and I know you can't see it very well but there's an awesome Motel sign in the back. The brides headdress is actually a child's costume skirt that someone had stapled handmade flowers to, probably worn for Halloween. I just loved that it looked like a veil when I put it on her head, really unusual, but pretty. The groom had a football ribbon, which is sort of like something maybe more you'd see for a prom, but he "won" his bride. Good story don't you think. Of course the bridesmaid, not be in the spotlight, has her mink stole, hat, and sunglasses ready for the event. Complete with her white dancing shoes (or boots if you will). There are binoculars so that you can see the guests from afar. I know I have a wild imigination.

This shelf was fun to put together and was Leftover's Inspired.

I tried to bring a variety of it all, from gardening to frames, suitcases, gloves, mannequins, a mixture of things.

In this last picture, there are 4 sets of old golf bags. Wouldn't they look cute on a door with all kinds of greenery in them.

My husband received a call this morning that his dad had passed. He's lost both parents within 6 months of each other. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as they travel as well. I so appreciate you all for praying for our family.
