My Therapy

People often ask me what type of work I do. I've worked for the same company for the past 24 years. However, my every waking moment (beyond 8-5), weekends and free time is spent doing what I'm truly passionate about, which is antiquing, decorating, and displaying at shows. While I'm looking forward to the Zapp Hall Show, in the meantime, I've decided to move into yet another Antique Shop. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment, because the past few shops have not gone well for me. However, I feel that until I am able to open my own shop, that I have to have a creative outlet to continue to do what I love and what I consider as my therapy. Since I work full-time, I can't always do shows. They are a lot of hard work, but a lot of fun, and I meet the neatest people!! If you display at shows, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Not that having your own shop isn't also hard work, which it is.

I thought I'd show you a peek into my world, my house, and what I truly enjoy? Since I'm a very visual person, if a magazine, book, or even shop doesn't catch my attention right away, you've probably lost me. But, when I pick up a book or magazine and I'm instantly wowed, I can't wait to get it home and read it. This month's Country Home and Country Living magazines did that to me; they're really worth reading (I love the article on Curious Sofa!!). If I'm in a new town and the outside of an Antique Shop is immediately inviting to me, I can't wait to open that door and go inside. The same is for websites. If I'm surfing and they don't seem visually appealing to me, I probably won't go back. That's one of the many lessons that I've learned in this business, to be visually appealing and to display your things as uniquely as possible. I hope you enjoy the tour of my home!

My table display (I can't wait for Spring and Easter):

This yellow wardrobe is in my bedroom and the vintage funeral baskets on top are one my favorite collections:

The Church Attendance sign was purchased at a yard sale held by the Methodist Church where I grew up. My son always laughs that every church has a "building fund". You can't see it very well because it is on the part written on the paper.

The Pink Lady is a fabulous painting.

This cute little white cabinet is in my half bath. The shelf below is what you see at the top of the bathroom.

Sorry for the glare, this display is on top of my mantel in the living room. The trophy display is on my wicker desk, also in the living room.

This is the faux painted wall on one side of the living room with my favorite yard long.

The red frame, mirrors, and vases are on my buffet in the dining room. The ironstone display is located on the opposite side of the buffet.

The cow picture is located in my dining room. I searched high and low for a cow picture and a dealer friend of mine had it in her space. Lucky for me.

The next set of pictures is in my kitchen, the shelf that runs all around the top, where I display my McCoy and Tole Trays:

And, of course you can see I'm addicted to decorating magazines. The metal shelf displays my books, and the ones on the table are just some of my favorite books.

I hope you have something that you are passionate about, scrap booking, decorating or just being a mother, or whatever it is in life that you enjoy.

Until next time,
Theresa

  2. great pictures...so you took the plunge again? is the shop near you? do they require a work day? I quit renting my booth last month and I am really enjoying the break...but I am sure the bug will bite me again soon.

  3. tattered nest,

The good thing is at this shop I don't have to work, which will be better for me. It's less than 3 minutes from my house, which is another convenience. The last shop I was in was 45 minutes from my house and I had to work 2 days per month, and my rent space for the new place is only $20 more! I don't think you'll ever be able to get the antique bug out of your system.

    Have a good weekend,
    Theresa

  7. What a delightful way to spend a lazy Saturday morning/afternoon strolling through your wonderful home! I wish we were neighbors! Your vignettes speak volumes and makes you feel like you're in the same room chatting as your telling us stories of your 'treasures'!

Out of curiosity because I see many cloches in your own home I was wondering if you sell them also? I'm looking for a tall slender cloche, by chance would you have one in your space now for sale?

Thanks again for sharing your home!~Dona
