One of the worse ice storm that Kentucky residents have seen in a long time, at least since 2003, has hit really hard these past few days. The difference with this storm is that it's affected the entire state. Theresa from Time Worn Interiors called today and indicated they are facing possibly two weeks without power, electricity or heat. She's said it's the worst storm that she's ever seen hit this state, which has far exceeded even what Hurricane Ike brought in. She said they've been without electricity for two days and the lines for gas were very long. She wanted everyone to know that follows her blog she will probably be without power for a while. If you want to check on her, you can leave her a comment on this post and I'll make sure she receives it. We usually talk several times a week. Here's hoping Kentucky residents are back up and going before long and most of all we hope and pray that the elderly residents are looked after. If you are in Kentucky and still have electricity or know someone that's there, the authorities are encouraging everyone that can to check on their elderly neighbors. Here's a small clip on what they are going through:

A possible two weeks without power? Oh man, I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like. ANd what about heat, and keeping warm with all that snow???
ReplyDeleteTheresa always leaves such sweet comments on my blog and she seems like the nicest person. I will be thinking good thoughts for her with the wish that she is okay and doesn't have to endure any hardships from the terrible storm!
Send her all my best-
Sue

wow, and to think it's so cold and no power. Makes me thankful for my wood burning stove. At least we'd have 1 warm room and could heat up some water. Hope they bring the power up soon.

Praying she get her electricity back on ASAP! Does she need to come to Texas for a couple of weeks? I've got room! Really I've got a house she could stay in if she can get out of Kentucky. Please let her know! Thanks Theresa!

ReplyDeleteI love looking at your blog; in fact, I think it is my favorite one. And, to learn how nice you are and concerned about others; well that's just the icing on the cake. Bless you.
ReplyDeleteIce storms are terrible. Not only the damage but the awful crashing & popping. We had one in '07 & I feel so bad for them. She's in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteHope she is not burning her antiques to stay warm. I hope it ends soon i have friends in Southern illinois, in the same shape.

Hi Theresa, thanks for your reply. I feel for Theresa. I was shocked when I took the generator up to my daughter. The highways are cleared but the side roads are a disaster. The trees look like a tornado came over the entire county and ripped the tops out. If the trees are not bent down to the ground with ice, they are uprooted or broken off, laying on homes, cars, roads. Power lines down everywhere! My daughter has a new home which has 2 trees on it, and 7 down in the yard. They had to cut a path out of their road which was DOZENS of trees of all sizes. I was thankful for 4wheeldrive as you have to drive on and off the road to get around driving on ice. As of yesterday, their county has had no disaster assistance! Red cross has not even responded! The high school is FULL of families and no power they are saying for 3 weeks. It has been in the teens at night and not about the 20's in the day. Finally, one gas station in town got a generator and started pumping. RiteAid let shoppers in by flashlite until they were cleaned out. There have been reported deaths from isolated people that could not get out and no one could get in, in time. The storm was so widespread that there have just not been enough hands to help. Even if you have a generator, you still have to buy fuel. Water is off, kerosene is hard to get for those lucky enough to have gotten one of the heaters available. Families have piled into homes with wood or kerosene heat, then all those have to be fed! I brought my grandson back with me since they will not be having school there for quite some time, and he will be one less to care for there. Yesterday I lost cell phone contact and get a message that there is technical problems, so I can't reach my daughter to get any updates. She and her husband are staying down the road at her father's who has a propane fireplace, so thank heavens I know they are warm. I will post a video on my web site today that I took while there. Tell Theresa I am praying, and please keep up the prayers for all of them! Carrell
