Austin Shopping

For the last post of our Anniversary trip, I wanted to share with you one of our favorite shops in Austin Tx, Uncommon Objects Antique Shop, located on S. Congress. This place is just awesome. I can't put into words just how much I love to come shopping here. When you walk in, you can either turn to the left or the right side. It doesn't matter which side you start on because you'll have to go back several times just see it all. Be sure and look up because the dealers here will hang things from the ceiling and you don't want to miss any of it. Every time we've been here, there always a crowd, but don't let that stop you from going. Even on Sunday morning when we stopped, we were there as soon as they were opening and there was still a crowd. It's almost like this is the place to hang out, rather than going to Starbucks, just go here.

The pictures all above were of Jeanette's booth. It's always so interesting.

This is Micki and Brandi's booth. They just moved to a bigger spot and Micki says they have much more to bring in. I loved all the round mirrors they had. They too always have a good eye for finding the most interesting things. Occasionally, they set up at the City Wide Garage Sale, so look for the mother/daughter team when you go.

The two booths above were of Linda Parker's booth. I love her style. You may remember her from the Marburger Show, but now she just sells here or you can find her too at City Wide.

You also never know who you will meet here. We met a very interesting lady that my husband just loved the way she was dressed. I think it was the Mexican Dress that caught his eye. When we started talking to her she told us of her travels into Mexico, the fiesta's she attended, and what all to see and where to go there. Well, since my husband is from Mexico she really caught his attention. The part of Mexico she mentioned we had never been to, but it was interesting listening to her adventures. Sorry I can't remember what her name was, it was just a great conversation.

I understand that celebrities have frequented here and movie set designers will occassionally stop by looking for their next cool item to buy to possibly use in a movie. Now, wouldn't that be too cool to see something you found and sold and it being used in a movie.

One of the other places we visited while in Austin was the City Wide Garage Sale. If you are wondering if this is a garage sale, it's an indoor place (yes air-conditioned) where vendors set up with all kinds of merchandise, from retro, to primitive, country, cottage, linens, silver, jewelry, a mix of it all. Here are some of the things that caught my eye:

I hope you've enjoyed seeing where all we went and will try and stop by one of these places the next time you are near them.

  1. Did Jeanette used to be in City View? There was a dealer who had a very similar look who moved to the Austin area and was at Uncommon Objects. She was moving out of City View just about the time I was moving in. I was just wondering...you know, inquiring minds and all!
