First White Wednesday of The New Year

Happy first White Wednesday to you.  I've so missed particiapting in Kathleen's White Wednesday, it seems forever since I done a post on this.  I was going to do a post of what all we saw at the Canton Texas Flea Market last week, but since my computer is still being examined for THE VIRUS (yuk!!), I've had to go to plan B for today.

I just loved the look of these kitchens.  So white, bright, and just beautiful.

Who wouldn't want to cook in a kitchen this beautiful.

And of course to have an outdoor dreamy kitchen as this, well maybe you wouldn't want to cook inside at all.

A very COLD blast is headed our way starting tomorrow.  You know us Texans aren't used to this cold weather since we rarely get any really cold weather, so we don't know how to act when we do.  Since I showed you these dreamy kitchens, I thought maybe if you stay in tomorrow, maybe you'll want to try a new recipe, like the one I have listed here.  It looked so yummy I just had to share it with you.  Enjoy:

Spicy Corn and Chicken Chowder

2 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch strips
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and diced
1 baking potato, diced
1 small sweet red pepper, diced
3 cups frozen whole kernel corn, thawed
1 tablespoon chopped thyme
2 cups milk
3 cups chicken stock
2 cups shredded cooked chicken
Fresh cilantro for garnish
1 lime, cut into thin slices
Salt and pepper to taste

Cook bacon in a large saucepan until crisp. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and dry on paper towel. Drain off all but 1 tablespoon drippings. Add onion, jalapeño pepper, potato, pepper, corn salt and pepper. Sauté for 5 minutes. Add thyme. Transfer half mixture to a blender. Holding lid on tightly so hot mixture will not spill out, puree mixture and return to pan. Stir in milk, stock and chicken. Simmer for 5 minutes. Spoon into bowls and garnish with bacon, cilantro and lime slice.  Nothing is better than soup on a cold day.

This recipe was seen on The Blue Moon Garden's website.  This is a beautiful Nursery in Chandler Texas that if you get the opportunity to visit it you should.  It's not far from Canton.

I will hopefully do my Canton post next week.  If you've never been to this flea market put this down on your list of places to visit soon.  You'll go crazy at all the vendors and things you'll probably find here.

Just a side note.  My computer is still not fixed, don't know how long it will be before I'm fully back in business.  So, if you send me an email it may take a few days for me to respond since I'm having to use my mom's PC to read them.  My son promises for the 40th time (not really 40 times but feels like it) that he'll have my laptop ready, that he's so kindly going to give me (so I shouldn't be complaining right?), by the Red Barn Show!  Woohoo, I can't wait to get back to blogging fulltime again.  Look out when i do...

Speaking of the Red Barn Antique Show, it's on January 16-17 so please mark your calendars and come out and see us.  I know you are itching to get back to coming out to the shows and we can't wait to see your smiling faces.  I'll post more about this show soon.

  1. Hi Theresa, that recipe looks and sounds so yummy, especially on these COLD days! AND wow, how I love that kitchen with the double chandys. I'd love to have a kitchen redo, just a dream right now! Now, stay warm down there, and I'm looking forward to all your photos. Being disconnected from our computers can be downright painful! Thank you, T, for all your support with the BSB. So good just to know you're out there!
    hugs and blessings,
    Debra

  2. Teresa I feel for you. For the first several years of owning a computer, I hated them. Couldn't figure out why anyone would want to sit in front of them. What would we do now? Especially if you know almost nothing about them. The kitchen with the chandeliers is my dream kitchen, especially if it has lots of windows.
