Georgetown Tx Shops

Yesterday after helping our son move, we headed to Georgetown to go to what is becoming one of our favorite shops, Gatherings. I also wanted to check out a shop a fellow blogger had mentioned Rough and Ready. Just the name made me envision all things crusty, rusty, and just my style.

When we entered Gatherings I could tell there had been rearranging and decorating done, which is what I love when I enter a shop. Since it had been since December since we had been I was glad to see it didn't look the same. If I enter a shop or booth space and see it's still the same, just doesn't make it very appealing. I think in this business, you have to draw people into your shop or booth space. When things remain the same, to me it means that person doesn't care to change things around. I love to see that things have been moved or are no longer there (you know what they say the best antique is the one that got away). When you move things around and you show your customer that while some of the same things may still be there, there is the possibility they didn't see it before in the same way. It also allows the customer to see the new things you've brought in. Also remember if you have display windows it's definitely a great idea to change them periodically, which is what was done at Gatherings. I'm no expert by any means, I just know what I like to see and what other customers have mentioned to me in the past. Here are the shop pictures:

Then on to Rough and Ready. The minute we drove up I absolutely loved the outside things. Gardening, bird baths, outdoor furniture, candelabras, just to name a few. Here I found a pair of black and white shutters. They are located on Austin St., right around the corner from the Courthouse square and Gatherings. So glad this store was recommended.

We didn't get to make it to the Vintage Market; moving took longer than we expected.

I found the black and white shutters, a glass fish tank, bingo cards, a flash card, and a really great smelling candle:

  1. Thanks for the great pictures. It seems that I can always find at least one great idea to take away as a project. This time was no exception.
    Thanks again,

  2. I live in Georgetown. Wish I had read your blog about visiting beforehand. I have NOT been to Gatherings b/c I am always in a hurry. Guess I need to slow down and take a look inside. Thanks for the tour.

  4. Yea! More shop pictures! You know I'm needing inspiration. Thank you for doing what you do. I don't know if I'll ever achieve the look of some of those shops, but it's so much fun to try. (It was cool to see that I've sold a few of the same things in the Gatherings pictures.)

  5. Hi! So happy to have found your blog! I had hear about "Gatherings" months ago, but just went for the first time last weekend and I loved it!! I also love "Rough and Ready", too! I took photos of those stores and blogged about them, too! :) I can't wait to get back to Gatherings!

  6. "Gatherings" is THE place to shop. I get all of my nieces' and nephews' annual ornaments there -- as well as holiday decorations.

Nobody has the unusual and one-of-a-kind items that "Gatherings" does.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
