So What's Happening in Texas

I've received several emails and phone calls as to what is really happening in Texas after Ike (or should I say Yike)!! Yes, there will be a lot of clean up of the storm debris that will still need to be done. Every street in my town that I drive down seems to have tree limbs and debris starting to be bundled up. The electrical crews (thank God for them and for the ones that traveled out of state) are slowly getting us back to normal. While I really can't comment on what's happening in the major cities that were hit by the storm, Galveston and Houston, other than what I'm seeing on the news. If you are curious about these cities, click here or here for local Houston news. These are the two stations that I mainly watch for updates.

The grocery stores and gas lines are packed as early in the morning as I have seen until late in the evening. The stores are still running low on bread, milk, eggs, the staples. They tell me they are getting supplies daily and it is all selling as fast as they are putting it in on the shelves. Renee emailed today and she says there's still no bread in College Station. The gas hasn't gone up too bad considering the demand and NO we are not having a gas shortage as I'm hearing from some.

While I know there are several of you traveling out of state for the upcoming Antique Shows and I still want to encourage you to make it if you can. We can't let this storm mess up the plans that you've made for almost 6 months. Yes, this was a bad storm, but we know how to bounce back after a disaster. The last disaster was Rita and the show went on. Don't cancel your plans, there will still be a lot to be found, great people are still going to be at the show, a good time is still marked on our calendars, and it's like a reunion with family and friends that no matter what you just have to find a way to make it. I know two Chippy Girls that won't let any thing stop them from coming to the show, if the airports would have closed they would have driven all night just to make it. That's the spirit you need, that no matter what...you are still coming to the shows!!

See ya there in 8 Days!!!!!!

  8. Good to know you're ok and things are moving along. I spoke with a dealer in Oklahoma yesterday and he is pretty bummed, thinking sales will be bad. So you bet we are still coming out and I am so glad to hear you will be there with bells on, so will we! I just hope everyone can keep a smile on their faces. We don't just comes for the goods, but for the good time.

  9. Some of our guys may be down there repairing lines. They returned last week, from Louisiana, repairing after Gustav. They were in Mississippi after Katrina. If you see any big orange trucks from Cuivre River Electric...that's our guys.

  10. Loved all the photos, but the first and last melted me. I can hear the spurs jangling as e'body saddles up for the upcoming Antique Shows. Hubby is going to try for Canton First Monday -

I keep reading/watching all the news of the devastation wrecked by this storm. It's just awful.
