Can you believe it? After so many years of subscribing to this magazine it too is going to quit, give up due to hard economic times and close their publications. From what I'm reading after the March issue this will be their last one. The website will also discontinue after their March issue arrives, which probably means sometimes in February since the magazine is normally a month ahead of itself.
I had enjoyed this magazine for many years, but when I noticed the excitement of it started to go down I lost some of my interest for it as well, but still continued to subscribe. Now, that it's going under, this was the one luxury items that I still allowed myself, I guess I'll have to find another luxury to turn to (has to be inexpensive). Maybe after some time they'll come back, like Victoria did.
Well enjoy it while you can!
- On another note, if you are in the Brenham area tomorrow, they are having their Winter Antiques Show--see my side bar for more info.
- Also, City Wide Garage Sale is tomorrow in Austin. Check out their info. here.
I agree with you about Country Home. I, too, lost interest in the mag. Their focus on what made us like them in the first place seemed to be put aside for what editors THOUGHT we'd like. Luckily for us, people like you with interesting blogs have stepped up to fill in their gap! And I get YOUR magazine several times a week!

Cher's absolutely spot on. I think a lot of these magazines demise is just that. It's not the economy. We magazine lovers will go without lipstick to buy a new one each month. The inspiration was gone replaced with a lot of ads. I'm sorry to see it and Home Companion ceasing publication, but I think they had both lost their focus. Oh well, at least we can surf and look and dream. Debbie
ReplyDeleteSad to see Country Home folding! However, it is just not the classic we loved! Angie
ReplyDeleteTheresa, you are the Queen of Scoops! I have subscribed to this mag, and given it as gifts, for years on end. I still enjoyed it and am going to be quite sad when it doesn't come to my mailbox anymore. Total bummer. ~Mindy
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa...
ReplyDeleteI've heard several magazines will be closing. Country Home was one of my favorites for several years, then things changed.
I believe there is a rumor, Country Living is in trouble, as well as Cottage Living. I think that was the other one. Have you heard anything about them? I am also told, not only the economy but the internet (blogs and things), might have something to do with the demise of some of these publications.
Maybe us Texas gals need to come up with our own "mag" and knock everyone's socks off! We could call it "Texas-Living Style"...just a crazy thought..you know when you get those and you think "wow, did I just think of that"! Anyway, I'm off to hunt for goodies this weekend, thanks again for all the tips on where to shop.
ReplyDeleteLove ya!
Lisa
I think "Texas Style Living" sounds a little better...what do you think? O.K. I'm going to leave this alone!
ReplyDeleteBye for now!
wow thats sad! Too bad they got away from the country look that their subscribers wanted to see.....
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I have not been buying Country Home much anymore, but I am a long time subscriber to Home Compainion, and I am sick over hearing this sad news. oh oh oh, Theresa, write a magazine, You are pretty much doing it already!
ReplyDeleteHugs, D
OH NO Not Country Home!! Its the best country magazine out there since Country Living changed from country to "God only knows".... damn!!!
ReplyDeleteI have just searched high and low on the internet for news of the closing of Home Companion Magazine, and can't find anything. Anyone know where to look?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Well it sure is a sign of change, I too have bought these magazines for years opps, just giving away my age. They have changed and they really don't have much good content lately.
ReplyDeleteI am sad that two of my favorites Home Companion and now Country Home are gone. I find so much inspiration here in blog world and wonder if that isn't part of it too. But for me there is nothing like curling up with a new magazine, a cup of chai or tea, fireplace on, looking at those glossy pictures.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with everyone, it just hasn't been the same and it totally lost my interest quite a while ago, can't put my finger on it, but when the homes started getting more perfect and not so much gardeny junk(outside-inside)around, I think it went beyond my budget and style...
ReplyDelete'More Junk, Texas Style' and Theresa, you're the new editor, now all we have to do is add up all the assistant editors...will there be enough pages...LOL!
The Nut
Well... what a compliment coming from you!!!! Thanks so much, glad you like my blog! Not surprised about Country Home, it has gone down hill the last year and bit, I will miss it though!! Take care, Chrissy
ReplyDeleteSo sad! I loved the change in country home, the cleaner, less hearts and flowers look. I will miss it so.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer! They are by far, my favorite magazine.
ReplyDeleteThat is a shame, i also enjoyed this magazine - even though the price of it in Australia was often ridiculous! I heard that the magazines are finding it very hard because companies are not advertising (although you wouldnt believe it when you see the amount of ads??)). What a pity though i did like this one. ReplyDeleteThe original Victoria, Cottage Living, Country Home, Home Companion...what's next?
ReplyDeleteI've been reading Country Home and Country Living since I was a college student in the 80s. These magazines have shaped my home and many of my values.
I agree with just about everything written above. I had mixed feelings about the change a few years back, but I really liked some of the issues.
Wow, there aren't going to be any magazines left that I subscribe to. Does anyone know what they're doing about us people who have already paid up for the next 2 years?
ReplyDeletePat - I got a notice in the mail that Cottage Living is done for as well.
Hello there; I have bought Country Home before. I have liked some issues and some I have not. What a shame it is going out of business. I just bought the new issue of Victoria, love it love it...
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. and hope you find a new love. {magazine that is} lol
Hugs;
Alaura
I have enjoyed this magazine. I hate to hear we won't be having it any longer. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful places on your blog. It's like looking through a good decorating magazine,or maybe even better....
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Shelley
I too agree with you about the magazine! I used to love it, but it seemed to be lacking lately. I do feel sad to see it go! Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry too, about Country Home and Home Companion, two of my favorites. They sent a notice that I will receive Southern Living to finish out my script. You are right about the content lately. I think the Texas girls AND the Tennessee girls and.... ought to come up with a doozie! Call it The Best of Blogger Bliss!
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know about Country Home! I have kind of been liking it better than Country Living lately. One of the Cottage magazines is done as well, is it Cottage Living? Take care, Sue
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad! I hadn't heard. I have enjoyed it for so long, but I agree...my addictions have changed to the blogworld where I can focus on what I love most...updated 24-7.

I am so sad even though I hadn't been buying it lately. Some of us trade our magazines because they've gotten so expensive. I always liked Home Companion too but there again, I haven't been buying it lately either. We would like to carry that TX decorating magazine in our MO shop when you get it ready for publication. Jan
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about Country Home magazine but I quit getting it a few years back when they changed directions somewhat. I agree with other comments here that blogs like yours have surely kept me from missing some of the decor magazines. I have followed your blog for a long time and have enjoyed it so much.
I'm shocked. My subscription was through 2010. It was better when Carol Sama Sheehan from West Univ. in Houston was editor. She used to do the Round Top show with Mary Emmerling. I'm gonna miss it.
ReplyDeleteTheresa-I to am sad to hear of the magazines closing. I love to look at magazines. I have been saving Country Living 20 years now. Country Home was also a favorite. If anyone likes primitives Mercantile Gathering has a mag. only 4 times a year but still worth the money. Now I am really glad I saved my old ones.
ReplyDeleteDonna
So ironic that I received my new issue today with what inside? A renewal form with an offer for a free year! What about the year I have left already....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Shelley
I didn't know they were stopping publication! But I haven't looked at one of those in a long time...guess we know why!
