Herb Festival & Antique Sale This Week

No matter the weather the Huntsville Garden Club, in conjunction with The Herb Society of America Texas Thyme Unit, will hold the 16th Annual Herb Festival,  which is this Saturday April 16th behind Huntsville City Hall (Town Creek Park), 1212 Ave M, Huntsville, TX from 9am to 2pm. They will sell homemade breads, Herbs, plants, garden related items, Yard Art, and demonstrations.   You can contact Gloria Graves (936) 295-1450 for more information about the event.

Donald Cox of Brownsville is one of the best plant vendors I've found around and he will be back at this festival, carrying a wide variety of plants.  He always has the best Basil and Sweet Annie plants among a wide variety of other plants and herbs.

While you are in Huntsville also check out one of our favorite Antique Shops, Callie Magee Antiques, located on the corner of Sam Houston Ave and 11th St.  Lois has a blog that you can visit her at, click HERE to see.

You can also visit the Sam Houston Museam, which features beautiful homes that belonged to Sam Houston and tour their beautiful grounds, there's a duck pond, and several other things to see here.  They recently moved a log cabin here and are in the process of restoring it.  Make a day of it and have a picnic in the park.  Or you can eat at one of several places in town, like the Farmhouse Cafe or The Sherpard Hill Cafe or you can't go wrong with McKenzie's Barbeque just to name a few.

If you are in the McKinney Texas area check out The Old Red Lumberyard Sale which starts on Friday April 15.  Both Nancy of Ella Elaine and Colorado Nancy (as she's called) will be set up at this sale. They both have spaces in the The Antique Company Mall as well and you can check out them out once you leave the sale. You know several great places to shop and eat at in McKinney (Patina Green being our favorite or our new favorite Mexican Restuarant is Aparicios McKinney, which is located across from the Antique Company Mall).

If you go to either place I hope you have a great time.

As soon as my other computer (the one that has all the pics on it) is working again, I'll be back to posting about the shows.

  3. Wish I didn't live so far away... I love Herbs and as far as I know we don't have any Herb Festivals around here. This year I'm growing Cilantro, Several varieties of Mints, Sweet Basil, Thai Basil, Italian Parsley, Dill, Rosemary and Lavender in my raised bed Garden. Sometimes I grow edible Herbs that we won't use very much, if at all in the kitchen, just because I love the fragrance and look of them all. Nothing is quite so intoxicating as the fragrance of fresh Herbs!
I Hope the Festival is a great success...
